"So a limited operation seems to have carried a powerful warning " that Israel has the intelligence and assets to strike at will at Iran's beating heart.

It is a message so urgent that Israel made sure it was sent before, rather than after, the start of the Jewish Passover, as was widely predicted by Israel watchers.

US officials have also indicated that Israel targeted sites such as Iran's air defence radar system, which protects Natanz. There is still no confirmed account of its success.

So this attack may also be just an opening salvo. But it was, for the moment, an unintended 85th birthday gift to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Israel's official silence gave Iran's ultimate decision-maker vital political space. Tehran did not have to invoke its new rule that whenever its arch-enemy strikes, Iran will hit back hard, with the risk of sparking a perilous escalatory spiral."

Dark Brandon seems to have gotten his message through to Israel.

... Israel still has not officially acknowledged that the attack in Iran in the early hours of Friday morning was its doing. ...

Over the years, Israel has seemed to be a bit reticent regarding their military excursions.

Let me ask a question here.

The Israeli drones seemed to have hit their targets.

Does Iran have no defense against an aerial drone attack?

I mean, the distance from Israel to Iran should provide Iran with ample warning that there were incoming.

Yet Iran did not appear to be able to stop that infringement.

Stated differently, does Iran need to use proxies against Israel because it cannot protect itself from a direct retaliation?

Iran uses proxies because a direct attack is a stupid thing to do. Much like the US could put an end to Russia's invasion of Ukraine overnight, but it would be a stupid thing to do.

Religion will fuel this as long as they exist. Can we ignore the whole area? Israel has no constitution and steals land from people they keep in a zoo. Why do we consider them an ally?

It was a good test of each country's offensive and defensive weapons systems.

Now you can see why Iran is not attacking back and rarely tries to attack directly.

They should have known better than to give away the weaknesses in their defensive and offensive capabilities. But now the whole world knows how weak they are. Which is bad news because now nuclear (and biological) weapons are all they have to fall back on. (Thanks Trumpy!)

But I would bet the Israelis are quite pleased with the results and are analyzing the data very carefully in preparation for any future war plans against Iran.
