The Big Lie is a criminal conspiracy, a long con, a grift, and essentially a Trump family business opportunity. Installing his conspiracy-minded daughter-in-law at the RNC opens another spigot of cash for his legal defense and her robocall tapped it. Four years and counting ...

The Big Lie metastasized into a sweeping, far-reaching conspiracy to first delegitimize and then overturn the results of the 2020 election. We often say the conspiracy culminated with the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, but in truth it never ended so it's hard to say when it culminated or if it even has yet. If that sounds ominous, it should.

The Big Lie continued to evolve and now it serves a different set of purposes, first and foremost to keep Trump out of jail. There's a straight line from the Big Lie through Trump's decision to declare his candidacy early so that he could label any prosecution of him as "election interference" to the millions of dollars being raised from hapless marks to pay Trump's legal bills.

Cowed Republican elected officials continue to pay homage to the Big Lie. It cannot be disavowed without putting their political careers on the line. With the Big Lie now serving as a litmus test for RNC hires, Joyce Vance writes: "The corruption of the Republican Party is virtually complete ... This is about the un-democratization of the Republican Party and its conversion into a political tool whose job is to fuel the cult of personality."

So rather than seeing the Big Lie merely as a historical artifact, a ripe target of derision and ridicule, or a sign of cultishness, it's best seen as an ongoing threat to democracy and the rule of law with its denouement yet to be written.

Right on target. Trump is busily destroying America as rubes continue to give him millions to do just that.

Merriam-Webster should be adding Trump's picture in definitions of "liar" and "grifter"

"The big lie: "it was the most secure election ever""

What a riot. When, exactly, were you planning on presenting your first piece of evidence in a court of law?

In a related question, why is it everyone you vote for screams "fraud" at the lectern, but once in a courtroom never utters the word???

Is it because lying TO YOU from the lectern is legal, whereas lying to a judge in a courtroom court get a lawyer sanctioned, disbarred, or jailed?

What say you? Why the obvious and repeated chasm between what they tell you, and what they claim in court?

The big lie TRUTH: "it was the most secure election ever"

Looking Back on the 2020 Election, the Most Secure in U.S. History

It's been over 425 days since the 2020 presidential election, the most secure, transparent, and verified election in U.S. history. And despite well-funded efforts to try to delegitimize the election, over a year later, nobody has produced - or been able to manufacture - any evidence that the outcome of the election was marred by fraud. The 2020 election was the greatest success story in the history of American democracy. In the middle of a global pandemic, election officials of both parties rose to the occasion and conducted the highest turnout election in history. Despite that success, American democracy is under unprecedented attack.

In 2016, fewer than 80% of ballots were cast on auditable paper. In 2020, that number increased to 95%, including nearly all ballots cast in every presidential battleground state. Georgia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia were among the states that transitioned to statewide use of ballots with a paper trail by 2020.

More states than ever before (43 plus DC) conducted post-election tabulation audits. Two pivotal swing states - Georgia and Michigan - were among the states that began auditing in 2020.

The 2020 election was one of the most scrutinized elections of all time. Even though the outcome was repeatedly confirmed under the law, several states have engaged in unnecessary and wasteful reviews of the election. All legitimate audits have pointed to one thing: a well-run election with no widespread fraud. Even the partisan reviews in states like Arizona, Michigan,Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, some of which continue more than a year after the election, have failed to find any problems that could have affected the outcome. In most cases, the legislators urging these partisan reviews were elected on the very same ballots about which they are raising doubts.

Receipts instead of Bullshart. The election wasn't deemed the most secure out of hype. (And don't forget, the election was held under Trump's presidency, not Biden's) It was deemed secure because of the most auditing in history and the greatest number of reviewable paper trails in key states than ever before.

We really need a federal law making election denialism a felony. Either present evidence of actual fraud or STFU.

"Debunking the Media's Claim That All of Trump's 2020 Election Challenges Were 'Baseless'

An Election Integrity review conducted on 92 court challenges filed over the 2020 election found that a clear majority of the cases decided on the merits were ruled favorably for the plaintiffs; particularly, the Republican Party and the Trump campaign.

The election review noted the cases decided on the merits and those that were dismissed for lack of standing or other procedural issues."

Nevermind Wisconsins illegal use of drop boxes as determined by their own state supreme Court. Pennsylvanias illegally distributed absentee ballots violating their own state constitution. Georgia illegally removing observers and continuing to count votes without them present. Which part of these illegal activities make for a "secure election". What a ------- joke of a lie you fell for.

The only ------- lie around here is you for bringing up anomalies which in and of themselves prove NOTHING as it regards "fraud" or insecurity. The practices you mention were used by registered voters in the attempt to exercise their franchise during a ------- pandemic! They were NOT a coordinated means to fraudulently effect the results.

You try to turn vote processing procedural acts into illegalities, which they are not or you'd be able to name those charged with criminal law violations - including election officials. You have NOTHING. And again, none of the things you mentioned were coordinated attempts to sway the election results. Secure is not synonymous with perfect, nothing is perfect.

Why aren't you banned for spamming this blog with Russian disinformation and lies?

JFC Tony Roma.

Some states scrambled haphazardly to implement mail in voting at a degree that had never been in place prior. In Georgia the changes resulted in some chaos in terms of accurately processing ballots. It's why the Georgia legislature tightened the process up which resulted in easier ability to vote than in 2018 and the process is more open than a number of blue states. The left and Biden called it Jim Crow on steroids and MLB moved the All Star game out of Atlanta as a result. Yet, Georgia had record turnout for the 2022 midterms and I have yet to see a single minority complaint about the voting process.

Bringing up Russia is just bizarre. "Hello! The 80's are calling. They want their foreign policy back."

Which has WHAT to do with the audits in 43 states and DC PROVING that no determinative voter fraud or non-registered voting took place anywhere in the United States?

You clowns get so hyped touting procedural issues that you fail to recognize none of the things being mentioned are methods to fraudulently effect election totals by the corruption of votes from non-registered voters and there is not a shred of evidence that elections were impacted by them.

THATS the issue. No determinative fraud, no non-citizen voting, no corruption of the vote counting, multi-state auditing = SECURE ELECTION.

You think conservatives would behave themselves without the threat of punishment?

#26 | POSTED BY SPEAKSOFTLY

I don't believe people "behave" themselves without not only the threat of punishment, but actual punishment.

Why do believe people would "behave" when there is no punishment?

#12 the issue IMO is that without looking every year, and being vigilant, how can you ever know with any certainty?

IMO the American voting system is closed to inspection.

I see nothing wrong with trust, but verify.

There is no "American voting system."

IMO the American voting system is closed to inspection.

False. I just provided the details above. Like the usual lizard-brain, instead of actually reading and learning from what others have provided for you, you must want personal attention.

VERIFIED

In 2016, fewer than 80% of ballots were cast on auditable paper. In 2020, that number increased to 95%, including nearly all ballots cast in every presidential battleground state. Georgia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia were among the states that transitioned to statewide use of ballots with a paper trail by 2020.

FAIR & TRANSPARENT

The rules for the election were set transparently months before the election, even when the pandemic required some accommodations for voter safety. Where campaigns disagreed with those rules, some were challenged (with wins and losses for both sides), while other rules were left unchallenged. In every case, both campaigns knew the rules well before the election, and the Rule of Law carried the day. Similarly, the losing candidate chose not to request a statewide recount in states he lost, though he had a legal right to ask for such a recount in states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

AUDITED

More states than ever before (43 plus DC) conducted post-election tabulation audits. Two pivotal swing states - Georgia and Michigan - were among the states that began auditing in 2020.

SCRUTINIZED

The 2020 election was one of the most scrutinized elections of all time. Even though the outcome was repeatedly confirmed under the law, several states have engaged in unnecessary and wasteful reviews of the election. All legitimate audits have pointed to one thing: a well-run election with no widespread fraud.

Does this look like a "closed" system to you? If it does, then open your eyes and see what actually exists.

It's so funny that all the Republicans claiming that elections aren't secure always think that liberals want any and everybody to vote. Nothing could be further from the truth. We have belief in the system because it keeps catching all the Republican perpetrators of intentional voter fraud while never identifying any coordinated attempts to commit fraud from the left. We're happy the system is secure because if it wasn't Republicans would be cheating everywhere they think they might lose.

The only party drumming up fraudulent votes is the GOP, full of "uneducated" who drink the fraud Kool-Aide being served up by Trump and those trafficking in his Big Lie.
