Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, March 24, 2024

Tucked in the massive government funding package signed Saturday by President Biden is a provision banning the flying of LGBTQ Pride flags over U.S. embassies. But even on the same day Mr. Biden signed the package, the White House vowed to work toward repealing the provision. The prohibition was one of many side issues included in the mammoth $1.2 trillion package to fund the government through September, which passed early Saturday shortly after a midnight deadline.

lmao.... lying headlines is all they've got now.

Obviously this was one of the Trumper's provisions, many of which will need to be repealed.

You know, one of those they held gov funding hostage to pass... this was prolly one of their finest moments, managing to get this stupid culture war trash passed.

Fraudulent headline. Not surprisingly in the least.

White House says it will fight ban on flying pride flags above U.S. embassies
www.axios.com

... The White House is vowing to repeal a provision banning U.S. embassies from flying LGBTQ+ pride flags.

The big picture: The ban was layered in the $1.2 trillion spending package signed by President Biden on Saturday and marks a reversal from the State Department's authorization in 2021 of U.S. diplomatic facilities around the world to fly pride flags.

What they're saying: A spokesperson for the White House told Axios in a statement that Biden "believes it was inappropriate to abuse the process that was essential to keep the government open by including this policy targeting LGBTQI+ Americans." ...

Did Biden or did Biden not sign a bill into law that included banning Pride Flags from US Embassy's? A simple yes or no

@#5 ... Did Biden or did Biden not sign a bill into law that included banning Pride Flags from US Embassy's? ...

Yes, he did sign the continuing budget bill.

I do not think that aspect is disputed.

What is disputed is any implication that Pres Biden is in favor of the ban.

No.

If he wasn't in favor of that aspect of the bill, then why sign it?

What context am I lacking there Corky? Biden signed a spending bill into law that banned Pride flags at embassy's. This is pretty cut and dry.

#11 | Posted by Bluewaffles at 2024-03-24 05:18 PM | Reply

He signed it to prevent the Gov from shutting down, not because he favored all the Trumpy culture war trash in it.

Pls tell me you are not really this stupid.... lie if you have to.

Since line item vetoes are unconstitutional I can see why Biden signed this.

I'm just glad we can all agree that Biden banned the Pride Flag at US Embassies.

#16 | Posted by Bluewaffles at 2024-03-24 05:38 PM | Reply

Redial apparently lacks reading comprehension.

The flag is not "banned" from US embassies, it just can't be flow "over" US embassies. You can display it inside or on the grounds all you want.

In fact, it really just says public funds can't be used to fly it "over" the embassy, so I wonder if it could be done privately?

Looking deeper, it doesn't ban the pride flag specifically any more than it bans the confederate flag or that stupid "Don't Tread on Me" flag.

"Biden bans embassy's from flying confederate flag" would also be an appropriate (semi-literate) title for this dumb thread.

@#16 ... I'm just glad we can all agree that Biden banned the Pride Flag at US Embassies. ...

For starters, I don't see agreement among "all" on that comment.

I agreed that Pres Biden signed the budget bill.

The provision about the flag was inserted in the bill.

Pres Biden had a choice, shut down government, or sign the bill.

Unlike Republicans, Pres Biden cares about the American people, so he signed the bill to keep the Country running even though it contained a provision that is odious to him.

So, revel in the signing all you want, but now the Democrats have another campaigning point (a possibly strong ~get out the vote~ type of campaigning point) to use in their endeavor to get a majority in both Houses of Congress in November.

There's a distinct possibility that this egregious ploy by the Republican extremists could back-fire....

Not really.

Maybe your current alias should educate itself on the continuing difference of opinion about allowing the President to use a "line item veto" on budget bills.

They passed the package.

They will fight the provision.

Only in the festering mind of a deplorable Trumping MAGAt is it worth sinking everything because it isn't exactly what they want.

This rigid black and white world conservatives live in is what makes them support dictators and authoritarianism.

They're shortsighted and stupid.

It probably should be banned. Unless it's a US flag, host nation flag, or some sort of special occasion, why would another flag be flown.

I'm not sure I like the optics of someone in the Embassy throwing up a University of Alabama flag because they love them some Crimson Tide.

Never been a leader in a democratic country I see. Democratic leaders make compromises all the time. (See the lead up to the civil war for details) Authoritarians and Dictators do not.

And I bet you think this is a win for people haters. It's not. It's a compromise for Democracy.

Seems to me you and your fellow human haters have never heard of something called a compromise.

You give a little. To get what you want. In this case to get a lot. A fully funded country.

This silly rule hateful Republicans slipped into the bill will be removed or repealed (or ignored) at some point down the road as people get tired of listening to religulous idiots make stupid religulous rules.

And this is the only stupid demand that republicans snuck into the bill that you can find? I bet there are many more stupid concessions that Biden had to make to keep the government funded.

Anyway enjoy your snicker. While you can.
