After vaccines became available, a huge partisan gap in Covid deaths opened. Even today, when most Americans have had the virus and have some natural immunity as a result, unvaccinated people are at much more risk.

Consider that about 95 percent of recent Covid-related hospitalizations in the U.S. have occurred among people who had not received an updated vaccine. This chart, based on data from Washington State, helps show the protective power of vaccines, especially for the elderly: [see chart]

Because so many Republicans remain unvaccinated, the partisan gap in Covid's toll has continued to widen over the past year: [see chart]

When the GQP asks are you better off today than four years ago...

Four years ago:

People were choking to death on their own fluids
The dead were be buried in mass graves
Bodies were stacked in refrigerated trucks
We were wiping our asses with coffee filters
Shelves in grocery stores were empty.

Donny dementia was calling it a democratic hoax and telling us to drink bleach.

"When the GQP asks are you better off today than four years ago..."

That's why Britt changed the line to "Are you better of today than you were three years ago?" in her rebuttal to the SOTU.

As Covid Spread, a Strain of Flu Disappeared. Now Scientists Say a Second Could Go Too
www.bnnbloomberg.ca

... Stay-at-home orders, border closures, mask-wearing and other measures aimed at stemming Covid-19's spread led to the global disappearance of a notorious winter germ. Now, scientists say it might be feasible with better vaccines to rid the world of a second one.

For decades, flu epidemics were driven by four strains. One of them, the so-called Yamagata-lineage of type B influenza, was struggling to compete before the pandemic and hasn't been seen since March 2020, said Ian Barr, deputy director of the World Health Organization's Collaborating Center for Reference and Research on Influenza in Melbourne.

Covid restrictions gave it "the killer blow which knocked it out," Barr said in an interview.

The strain's disappearance eliminated a viral source of death and disease, especially among children, and a component of annual flu vaccines.

It also showed that it might be possible going forward to eliminate its type-B cousin, a strain known as "Victoria." ...

Charlie Kirk instructs Trump to not take credit for COVID vaccines, warning that "fringe issues very well might end up defining this election"

Kirk: "If you're gonna put up a Truth Social post that can be viewed as you taking credit for the vaccine, there is a potential political cost to that ... I would stay away from the vaccine issue."

Trump: No I don't take responsibility at all

Those are the words of a real leader!

A leader who, Defunded the CDC in order to pay for his tax cuts. Called the threat of Covid a hoax. Told people to ignore mask mandates. Was caught on record admitting he always knew how dangerous Covid actually is.

Doesn't take responsibility for any of it.

What's worse is, there are morons who can't wait to vote for him again.

Mostly because they want to hurt liberals. And are too short sighted to see they're hurting America.

My favorite part of covid was how republicans were so determined to ignore public health advice and prove their loyalty to trump's covid delusions that they killed enough of themselves to lose the senate in the midterms.

Personal Covid anecdote:

I avoided Covid for years. But when everyone let their guards down (including me) it finally caught up with me.

Fortunately I has gotten my shots and three boosters. So while it was very bad (worse than any flu I have ever had) and my fever got to 105 which is very dangerous at my age I believe to this day I survived it because my immune system was ready for it and was able to handle it without my systems being completely overwhelmed. And I am a high risk person. So it still took weeks to fully recover. But thankfully I did. Because then my entire family got it and I had to take care of them until they recovered too.

And now unfortunately I am very leery of restaurants and crowds again.

Some People just don't seem to care if they spread it now which is very dangerous to us elders.

Incidentally, you were the one who told us you were working as a short order cook during the pandemic. So just STFU and stick to what you know, because no one worth their salt as a virologist would be flipping burgers during an actual pandemic. You were also the one posting citations that were redacted publications on the virus - so you didn't even read them yourself, or you have trouble with comprehension.

I hope Sniper is reading this, It should encourage him to know he wasn't the dumbest poster here.

DONNERBOY

Glad you made a full recovery.

My wife and I also got COVID but didn't end up in a hospital or morgue from it.

Thankfully, we were also fully vaxxed. My wife got it twice, once for me. The second time she caught it (both times at a hospital following shoulder surgery), she had some breathing difficulties. Fortunately, our doc phoned in the COVID antiviral Lagevrio (also known as molnupiravir) both times. We could almost tell the minute it kicked in to stop the virus replicating and our immune systems kicked into high gear. From that turning point we recovered quickly.
