Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, March 07, 2024

Excerpts from President Biden's State of the Union Address as Prepared for Delivery: In its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade the Supreme Court majority wrote "Women are not without electoral or political power." No kidding. Clearly those bragging about overturning Roe v. Wade have no clue about the power of women in America. But they found out when reproductive freedom was on the ballot and won in 2022, 2023, and they will find out again in 2024. If Americans send me a Congress that supports the right to choose I promise you: I will restore Roe v. Wade as the law of the land again.

I suspect the after-SOTU GOP commenters (and right-wing media) have ALREADY written their commenters expounding how feeble President Biden was during the SOTU (even before a single word is uttered!). They'll only be watching the SOTU to find any hint of gaffes to prove their opinion.

Traditionally, a purpose of the SOTU has been to unite Americans. I hope that Biden is not under the impression that such a strategy will win him any new supporters in the current climate. So long as Trump is in the mix, it all boils down to divide and conquer. In tonight's context that means emphasizing the over-turning of Roe v Wade, and the travesty of our national gun laws which guarantee the slaughter will continue.

That was a good SOTU speech. Enjoyable. Accurate. Some good goads.

Republicans sat there pouting through most of it, and then stupidly (thank you!) handing Biden an opportunity to rebut them and put them in their place. They didn't do themselves any favors with their behavior, including sitting there stone-faced and silent when there were lines that should have had them clapping for America, no matter what "side" you're on.

I love that he went after the "former guy" and the supreme court, which seriously deserved every last word he gave them. Astounding to watch that play out.

Biden nailed it. Any GOPher who was telling themselves that 2024 was somehow going to be a cakewalk for Trump are now waking up to a very different reality. In fact, maybe, some of them are even beginning to contemplate the reality that Trump is likely to lose. Again.

Now that I think about it, this is a common pattern for Trumpers. They buy into all the lies Trump tells. But there eventually always comes a point when they all go up in smoke. The myth of the drooling, demented, feeble Biden certainly did tonight. I remember up until the very hour that Biden was inaugurated in January, 2021 all the MAGAts and the QANONers kept saying "something" was going to happen and Trump would be declared the actual winner. So ------- delusional. Kind of mind blowing.

Where has Biden been? He's been busy getting ish done! Busy being the most consequential POTUS since Johnson, maybe since FDR. This is Campaign Biden. I noticed that unlike Dotard in every Klan rally he has these days, Dark Brandon didn't glitch mid-sentence and then shut down, and he was able to maintain his energy level. Yes, Dark Brandon is about four chronologically years older than Combover Quisling, but physically, he's at least 15 years younger because he takes care of himself.

Don't worry. MAGA will insist that the man drooled on himself the entire speech, rather than handed the nation Trump's ass.

They are REQUIRED to see Biden as impaired. They won't stop. They're drones. They haven't the character or independent will to stop.

Biden's State of the Union was great. Trump could have not approached it in quality, even if his speechwriter made sure the word "Venezuela" never appeared.

The United States was reminded by Biden that MAGA loves Putin, hates women, doesn't give a damn if you die from lack of insulin, and WILL gut your Social Security and healthcare as soon as they are able.

All of it the truth.

'What the Hell Am I Watching': Republicans Torch Their Own SOTU Rebuttal

Alabama Sen. Katie Britt was panned after delivering the most bizarre State of the Union rebuttal in recent memory

Biden's speech was not for MAGA. He understands that MAGA is not interested in national unity or national success. They are interested in Trump and Trump's ambition to be just as ruthless and rich as Putin.

It was not surprising that the Republicans last night DID NOT STAND OR APPLAUD for the United States, their own country, when given numerous chances to do so.

Biden made it clear that he understands that Trump and MAGA can't be persuaded. That, like Hitler and Nazism, they must be beaten.

It's wonderful is all we need to beat these nasty and unpatriotic people is to do the right things, the sane things, the smart things, the American things.

The only thing that mattered last night was Biden getting through the speech without any difficulties.

And I think he did fine.

If Biden goes out there and stumbles and fumbles and appears incoherent....then that's a problem for Biden on election day. It could put the possibility in play that turnout is too low. Which favors Trump, and every body from the GOP downticket.

I think that was avoided last night.

The rest of it? don't give a crap. the attacks, the ------- who had to be ushered out, the GOP response, etc.....meaningless.

Biden just had to do his job and hold it together for a good speech knowing he was going to get what he got from some in the gallery.

Or did you forget when Dems did the same thing during Trump, and Reps did the same thing during Obama, and Dems did the same thing to W, and on and on and on and on and on. This is the first SOTU that I can remember when the that did not happen. Bush had HUGE moments where everyone was on their feet. Do you not remember?

Where it really started to go sideways was with Trump's SOTU. Even then Trump got accolades from both sides for killing that ISIS leader, for saying AIDS was going to end, and at least one other thing. I'm sure you can research it and find out.

But for 3 out of last 4 years the public was kept in the dark by Democrat Press/MSM, just like they did with Hunter Bidens laptop and many other issues. This comment from a politico also evidences how hypocritical she is:

The majority of crime committed by undocumented migrants (i.e., "illegals") is done so against other undocumented migrants (i.e., intragroup). Why, you ask? It's less likely that the victim will report the crime to law enforcement in fear they will be identified as undocumented, leading to deportation. The criminals understand this and take advantage.

It codified 1.2million illegals.

Biden attacked Republicans right out of the gate.

Biden told the truth last night, and Repubicans felt attacked, LOL.

And an actual conservative in the Republican Party is as rare as a blue unicorn. Which is a relative to white unicorns as they are distant cousins.

No wonder righties were pissed about this speech.

Biden spanked your bitch asses.

Love how he called out the Repubs taking credit for infrastructure money they voted against.

However, I find it repugnant that the Repubs couldn't even clap for the notion of kids not drinking water from lead pipes.

How f&^%ed has the GOP come that they'd rather kids drink lead contaminated water than a Dem POTUS look good.

Katie Britt's GOP response was incredibly bizarre. Like a bad actress auditioning for a soap opera.

It's called Fundie Baby Voice. It's not just an act, these christian nutjobs are sincere. Rehearsed and totally staged, sure, but the message and tone and setting really is how conservatives want to see the world. Women in the kitchen as submissive children that require 'men' like Mike Johnson to oversee their entire life. It's the Handmaiden's Tale but IRL.

If you remove all context and run the clip no resonable person could tell the difference between a modern American christian woman like Katie Britt/Anna Duggar/Kelly Johnson and a comedian mocking a modern American christian woman. It's a perfect example of Poe's Law.

At least Speaker Johnson didn't rip up the speech after it was given right in front of the cameras. The same lefties who are ripping Republicans for not applauding Biden after he ripped into them are the same ones who applauded Pelosi tearing up the speech.

If you all didn't have double standards you'd have no standards at all.

Trump is/was exactly the kind of dog ---- we knew he was going to be.

Should Pelosi have done it? No. Did Trump earn every expression of disrespect? 1,000%.

Is Biden the same? Not even close. Only a partisan idiot would assert as much.

Funny, though, instead of acknowledging how screwed up your party is, you whine about perceived grievances.

" you whine about perceived grievances."

I'm not the one whining.

I do t care that Biden opened his speech by ripping his opponents. However, once he did that he earned the reaction (lack of applause) that he received.

It's lefties on this site who are whining that Biden didn't get applause when he mouthed platitudes.

It's not surprising you are incapable of seeing that.

And for the record, I don't give a crap that Pelosi tore up Trump's speech.

Turns out Sen. Katie Britt was lying in her SOTU response.

The story about the 12-year-old held in prostitution actually happened while Bush was president, and in Mexico.

Well it looks like Jonathan M. Katz has caught @SenKatieBritt in a pretty significant lie. pic.twitter.com/rbRa17dL2L

You didn't watch the speech (your words) so why are you even here today? Talking about something you have no clue about.

Republicans could not even applaud for no "political violence" because the threat of political violence is one of Trumpy's (the now titular head of the GOP) strategies.

Being against political violence would greatly displease Dear Leader.

Can't be doing that!

Biden rebutter Sen. Britt blasted for recycling 20-year-old sex traffic story to attack border policy

- In her rebuttal to Biden's State of the Union, Republican Sen. Katie Britt of Alabama used what appears to be a sex trafficking victim's experience from the early 2000s to condemn President Joe Biden's current border policy.

- The victim Britt referenced was Karla Jacinto Romero, who was sex trafficked in Mexico from 2004 to 2008, twenty years before Biden became president.

- Journalist Jonathan Katz first pieced together Britt's presentation of Jacinto Romero's experience in a TikTok video.

Republican Sen. Katie Britt of Alabama is under fire for using what appears to be a sex trafficking victim's experience from the early 2000s to condemn President Joe Biden's current border policy.

In her Thursday rebuttal to Biden's State of the Union, Britt referenced a visit to the Del Rio sector of the Texas border where she had a seemingly private conversation with someone who had survived sex trafficking by groups in the U.S.

"That's where I spoke to a woman who shared her story with me," Britt said in the video. "She had been sex trafficked by the cartels starting at the age of 12."

The woman in question was later found out to be Karla Jacinto Romero, an activist who has publicly testified about her experience with sex trafficking, which took place from 2004 to 2008 in Guadalajara and other Mexican cities.

Britt seemingly attempted to present the anecdote as a damning example of Biden's border management.

Good post BLUSKY! I watched her and felt the same way and the next morning on "The View" those women, both liberals and conservatives totally agreed with you. Her response was so laughable! She stupidly repeated parts of Biden's speech but was too dumb to even know it. If she the best the GQP has to respond was totally laughable! Whoever chose her to respond to Biden is a fool.
And Joe's first comments about FDR speaking about the danger of isolationism back in 1941 were so apptopriate with Isolationist fool Mike Johnson sitting right behind him. That set the stage for the rest of his brilliant speech. He spoke the truth about the traitors sitting right in front of him.
