I wonder what Secretary of Commerce is worth?

"I wonder what Secretary of Commerce is worth?"

Probably about half a billion with daily compounded interest by now.

I had it figured that Musk was going to be Trump's last resort and the only thing he had left to sell was the promise of an intangible, like a cabinet position.

Trump had no choice but to go where the money was. Musk is going to want collateral. So, what does Trump have left to offer? Truth Social perhaps?

...like a cabinet position.

Or SCOTUS.

And all the DR Republicans just whistle past this graveyard of democracy.

"Or SCOTUS"

I thought of that, too. But I ruled it out. Musk would want something in return that he can own . . . 100%, and a deal he could enforce in court if Trump tried to wiggle out.

I don't know... half a billion is chump change for Elon and he's not known for overthinking things.

Elon doesn't have the cash. His wealth is in stocks and most of his Tesla stock is used as collateral for his Twitter loan.
What happened to the four hundred million plus in cash and easily converted stocks and stuff p0113 said he had a few months ago? Did Junior Mint snort it all?

Trump NEEDS the cash.... the 3 billion to him personally from China, Russia, and the Saudi Families, and the other 7 billion for Trump Media through shell company DWAC, is being held up by some partners who see they can demand a bigger cut... because Trump NEEDS the cash.

Elon says he's not giving trump cash...while likely giving piles of cash to his super pacs and giving him free propaganda on twitter every day.

Headline fail. Should read "Musk meets with Morgan Stanley, says he cannot repay loans for Twitter buy".

Der Dotard is not after money so much as unfettered access to Twitter for him and his lying minions and boot lickers. Trump is so dumb he had to be told by others that Musk has no dough to throw his way, but still has a social network platform full of liars, phony journalists, political hacks had Hillary haters...

Trump allies on the Republican National Committee want to help pay his legal bills
www.nbcnews.com

... A growing number of Republican National Committee members believe its campaign arm should help pay mounting legal bills for former President Donald Trump, a move that could strain the party's ability to financially support other candidates in the 2024 election.

RNC Committeeman Solomon Yue, who is from Oregon, told CNBC he believes "more than a majority" of members are in favor of helping offset the bills from Trump's lawyers in four pending criminal cases, and at least three other civil cases.

"I support the RNC paying President Trump's legal bills," Yue said. ...

Elon Musk Says He Won't Be Donating to Trump or Biden
www.thedailybeast.com

... Elon Musk on Wednesday announced that he will not be donating to either the Democratic or Republican candidates in the 2024 presidential election.

"Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President," the Tesla boss wrote in an X post. Musk's declaration comes the day after The New York Times reported that he'd met Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend as the former president seeks to boost his campaign's financial firepower.

Speculation had been growing about whether Musk -- the world's second-richest man, commanding an estimated $200 million fortune -- would offer financial support to Trump. The SpaceX founder, who previously said he voted for Joe Biden in 2020, has recently launched a series of attacks on the Democrat's administration, going so far as to accuse officials of "treason" over the government's handling of illegal immigration.

March 9th for the defamation suit. He still hasn't paid the 80+ million on that one, he is stalling.

The interest on Trump's fraud case started to accrue on February 16 when Judge Engoron issued his summary judgment.

The 30 days to file an appeal started on January 23 when it was recorded in the clerks office.

Considering that March 23 (the end of the 30 days) is a Saturday, Trump has until March 25 to come up with the cash plus the interest. That's 19 more days.

Elon Musk may not be telling the truth when he said he won't give (or loan) Trump any money ~ considering what a firestorm that would create in the media.

Considering that there were several deep pocket GOP donors at that meeting, I would suspect they might have a plan to channel the money Trump needs through several sources.

The other alternative is that Trump left the meeting empty handed. We'll know on March 25.

Donald Trump seeks new trial in E Jean Carroll defamation case
www.theguardian.com

... Attorneys for Donald Trump have requested a new trial in the defamation case brought by the writer E Jean Carroll, hours before he was unofficially crowned the Republican party's presidential candidate.

Trump's attorneys, led by Alina Habba, filed papers in federal court on Tuesday arguing that the jury's compensatory and punitive awards of $83m for denying he sexually abused her in a department store dressing room in the mid-1990s are out of proportion and should be reduced. ...

How come a "billionaire" can't come up with a few million bucks?

#20 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2024-03-07 02:51 PM | Reply

Don't know... half a billion with ZERO chance of getting repaid EVER. That is still a lot of cheddar to throw on the fire. Musk has enough economic woes, plans, and needs for his many varied business interests and quests to go burning even more cash on lost causes I think. Not to mention that the entire Democrat half of the nation would instantly take a very dim view of him (and his products) were he to do this. Is it really worth all of the negative press he would get from bailing out Trump? The payoff would have to be astronomical.

And I don't think Trump has that many Aces left in his hand. Maybe a pair of deuces...
