"But here we are. Isn't anyone else nervous about this?"

I am. Very nervous. I trust Donald Trump will look out for Number 1, aka himself, and everyone and everything else be damned.

It's a' gonna' be OK... he never read them before, I doubt he'll start now.

Vlad, though, that's another story; his mailbox will be full.

All the more reason to feed him nothing but disinformation and watch what happens.

@#2 ... It's a' gonna' be OK... he never read them before, I doubt he'll start now. ...

Yeah, for me, it is not a matter of whether or not he reads and understands them (I gave up that hope long ago).

It is a matter of who he may be selling them to.

I ask again, where are the contents of those empty classified documents folders from the Mar-A-Lago bathroom?

Were they sold?

Curious about the source and reasoning for a candidate to receive "national security briefings," I turned to the googles; "presidential candidates receive national security briefings".

First result is a 2016 article on Salon. The article offered a link to this article, Intelligence Briefings for the Presidential Nominees, by a 33-year career CIA officer who served a senior level positions.

Seems the sitting president offers the candidates a one time deep overview of the national intelligence landscape not daily briefings, not "intelligence," not documents. But to give an appreciation of just what national intelligence really involves.

Given that reasoning, Biden should deny the Buffoon the courtesy. The Buffoon knows not just the national security landscape but many of the intimate details about which he has demonstrated that he doesn't give a s**t unless it serves his personal interests.

This is not required by law. Biden can certainly block it.

More on the topic from a 2016 article in Time:

How does the process work, and why does it exist at all?
The process is flexible, and the history is borne of geopolitical caution, according to new reports, public information and interviews with David Priess, who served as an intelligence officer during the Bill Clinton and George W. Bush administrations, as well as other intelligence officials who wished not to be named.

Depending on candidate interest, the briefing could be a one-time event or multiple briefings, up through the November election.

But Priess cautioned against downplaying their impact. "We shouldn't delude ourselves into describing it as a general, generic briefing," he said. "Let's not look over the fact that it is a top-secret, classified briefing."

What about a third-party candidate?
The briefings are a courtesy, with no statute specifying who may receive them. This year, in particular, it's possible third-party candidates could be included, Priess said, noting that the two-party system has fallen out of favor with many voters this cycle.

The bigger problem will occur if Trump becomes president. I just don't mean the fact that he will once again be privy to all of our national security secrets. I mean the fact that our allies now knowing Trump's history will be less likely to share their national security secrets with us, which in turn will make us as a nation much less safe. The fact that MAGA supporters discount this fact and don't even consider this to be a problem is so shortsighted. They may not think Trump's actions will ever negatively impact them, but in fact they could have a rude awakening someday. Bye-bye Five Eyes:

Turnbull also warned that Trump winning reelection in November could pose a threat to national security. He said the former president--who is the front-runner in the GOP primary--is leading a party "no longer committed to democracy."

"The scary thing is that for countries like Australia and many European countries, we may find ourselves not dealing just with two autocracies in Russia and China, but what is Trump's America going to look like?" Turnbull said. "This is a guy leading a party that is no longer committed to democracy as we understand it."

Fun fact: he can't claim to declassify any of the information in the briefings. So if he blabs any of it, and he will, that's basically an instant charge.

Also fun, there is no impetus for the Biden administration to have the briefings turned into a picture book and one page summary like Trump likes. He'll actually have to read. Which will be funny when he doesn't.

A charge about which he will care not the slightest.

It would be great if the Biden Admin would feed him BS, but believable BS, so that when it shows up in Russian propaganda they can say, "see, he is a traitor, he shared his national security briefing info with his Russan handler." The intel community does has done it before to root out suspected traitors.

Given his past record, you would think there would be a constitutional precedent for the
SCOTUS to weigh in on whether he could/should still have unfettered access to classified
docs/info.

but I guess we already know how they would "rule"...

Re-electing Trump is like giving Benedict Arnold unfettered access to
George Washington's war plans against the British...

Schedule these briefings for those times Der Dotard is normally on the gawf course. Salt the info presented with numerous false statements, and see what comes out of this guy's pie hole at speeches and other public events. When Trump passes on false info presented to him in these briefings, put him in cuffs...

Give him a couple of footing books and crayons instead, his demented brain won't the difference.

The founders never planned for a presidential candidate to be a russian puppet who attempted a coup. They didn't imagine one of our parties would become so treasonous and gave us no tools to protect against them.

Oh no, a criminal charge. Something he can apparently delay for years on end and maybe even pardon himself for, if he doesn't die first. Laws are a big deterrent to guys like Trump, it's worked so well in the past.

How can he even get a security clearance at this point?

#21 | Posted by TFDNihilist at 2024-03-06 08:06 AM | Reply

#21 In a hilarious twist, the President of the United States is not subject to a security screening and can access classified information without any need for a clearance, even if they would objectively not qualify for one. The onus is on voters to not elect a compromised criminal POS, a hurdle that Republicans unfortunately cannot satisfy.
