To safeguard maritime vessels navigating the Red Sea, the US Navy utilized aircraft not only from their impressive fleet of aircraft carriers but also deployed versatile amphibious ships. A prime example of this is the AV-8B Harrier II, an aircraft renowned for its vertical takeoff and landing capabilities.

During this operation, one pilot from the US Marine Corps Aviation Squadron 231, Captain Earl Earhart, boasts a remarkable record. He was stationed aboard the multipurpose amphibious assault ship USS Bataan. According to Earhart, during the period of the US Navy's presence in the region, he successfully eliminated no fewer than seven kamikaze drones belonging to the Yemeni Houthis.

AV-8B Harrier "Jump Jet" was cool when I was a child. They still fly these things huh. I like how the military has no need for things like planned obsolescence. I bet they have a trebuchet and a phalanx in storage.

I once saw a Harrier Jump Jet coming in for a landing. We were taken up to Dahlonega, Ga. for adventure training to rappel off some cliffs along the Appalachian Trail, not too far from the small military base there. They had loaded us into a sort of portable building, lifted it with a CH54 Skyhook helicopter and taken us to a very small military airport. We were to walk from the landing pad, across the runway to the tower on the other side.

I'd never seen a Harrier Jump Jet before that. When we got near the runway, we had to wait as there was an aircraft approaching to land. As it got closer I recognized it to be a jet of some sort. I looked at the length of the runway and I thought I was going to see a jet in the trees. There was no way a jet coming in that fast was going to be able to land on a runway that short. You could imagine how my jaw dropped when this jet didn't even use 1/2 the runway. He was floating above the pavement at about 10 feet off the surface, did a 90 degree turn and headed for the maintenance building on the other side of the tower. You could have knocked me over with a feather.

Bring them home and you don't have to shoot anything. Skip that area of the world- it wants to live like 2000 years ago. Do we need the oil that bad?

It's far from just oil. 12% of global trade goes through the Suez canal.

Did he down the drones with expensive missiles, or just with a little fuel?

*shoots three missiles

One hits the Louvre, one hits the Eiffel Tower, the third falls into the sea.

Article said they typically use the cannon.

I would invent a net that deploys from the flare launcher and spreads to several meters across.

a net that deploys from the flare launcher

That certainly sounds feasible.

An anti-drone drone that hunts and disables other drones.
Maybe it has a hard lance with which to poke the other drones. From behind.

"a net that deploys from the flare launcher"

Interesting. I wonder if that could be adapted to a shoulder launcher for a butterfly net to catch Donald Trump when he finally flips out and goes running amok.

Jus' a thought.

When I read the header I had a mental image of Trump's lawyers chasing him around the courthouse with a shoulder launcher loaded with a butterfly net.

That's just the way my mind works. I thought it would make a funny cartoon.

You're talking about real life. I'm talking about a political cartoon ~ which I'm going to put pen to paper as soon as I learn how. I'm an artist but I've never done caricatures before. There must be a crash course on Google somewhere.
