Jess Piper: His last words were apologies for Facebook posts--it shouldn't have ended that way.

And that's the thing ... daddy wasn't a outlier. His story is common. I wish it weren't but such is the world we live in now.

That's just it.

Dementia don has tapped into a vein of rage in this nation. The American dream has been stolen from so many in this nation...not by immigrants...but by CEO's and CFO's that found an easy way to maximize profits by over working middle class workers (they call it increased productivity) and sending the jobs that used to pay a solid wage with health insurance and a promise to provide a pension to the worker in retirement that built the middle class over to Mexico, India, Pakistan, Korea and China in exchange for lavish praise from wall street. Those jobs were replaced with lower paid service industry work with fewer benefits and a "benefit" of hey...save for you own retirement. But that wasn't good enough...now those jobs are being replaced by uber, instacart and doordash gig work that offers no minimum salary and absolutely no benefits.

The problem is that Dementia don has sold them a story that only he is looking out for them, that he will make things great again by deporting all the immigrants and closing the border when in fact he will do neither. He doesn't give a --- about the middle class. Never has. He only cares about himself and will say WHATEVER he can to get back into power.

Look at the promises he made in 2016. How many did he keep? One. To cut taxes. He promised a big huge tax cut for the middle class when in fact the middle class pays a higher tax rate today than Bezos, Musk and every other billionaire.

He is a snake oil con artist. Always has been, always will be. Nothing could be as clear as the fact the evangelicals worship him after he routinely violates every single one of the ten commandments and follows exactly none of the teachings of christ.

That was an excellent post, pinpointing the reality of why the middle class is hurting.

Republicans actually gave corporations tax credits (not deductions .. FREE money) for moving factories overseas in the 2001 & 2003 tax bills.

The same tax bills that rocketed our deficits and national debt to the stratosphere.

Many of us have been through something like this with a family member or friend over the last couple of decades. It started before Trump. Much of it started with the onset of the so called 'Tea Party'. When it happens with people who we used to have honest respect or love for, it's heart breaking. This cult like mentality is a mental illness. And it's now suffered by about 30 percent of this nation.

The Tea Party was one of the big reasons why I gave up my registration as a Republican back then to become an unaffiliated voter ere in Connecticut.

The Tea Party, imo, started it, but fmr Pres Trump has thrown, and is throwing, gasoline on that fire the Tea Party started.

I feel Jess' pain.
I've lost friends to that con man.
I know we will not connect again.

The problem is that Dementia don has sold them a story that only he is looking out for them, that he will make things great again by deporting all the immigrants and closing the border when in fact he will do neither.

I have a bit of a digression/expansion on this topic, though it's not the point of this thread. It's a warning about what's coming because of what's happening in Florida under DeSantis.

Florida is working furiously on getting rid of migrants. That's causing problems, no one to do construction and other hard labor jobs (among other jobs). What to do? Use Florida's children.

Florida's filling the void by lowering the age children can work, and dangerous construction jobs the age is being lowered to 16. Other jobs it's 14 with parental permission. They're also doing away with the limit on hours worked. An education isn't really that important in Florida when big business (Associate Builders and Contractors of Florida and the Florida Home Builders Association are MASSIVELY pushing and lobbying this, and writing the legislation) needs the laborers. Screw childhood.

Also getting in the way are those pesky laws that restrict hours worked, or worked in direct sun on sweltering days, or any requirement for breaks, providing sunshades, or water. We already have people die on the job from heat related illnesses.

This in a state where 16 and under are to be banned from social media, if the GOP gets their way.

Of course the real answer is to PAY A FAIR WAGE.

But this plan is better for businesses, and it will drive all wages down here in the Sunshine State. Children are cheap, especially when you don't have to give them shade, water, or protection.

Why did I say all that? Because I bet you this is where the GOP is going to go in other red states.

The vote in Florida for child labor was 80-35 for. That should scare any sane human.

Blame Trump instead of yourself and YOUR choices.

You're an intolerant, thin skinned twerp who can't get along with very many people and you've let Trump impact YOUR feelings and attitudes.

HB 945, SB-1492.
Both prohibit any municipality from requiring any protection for heat.
Florida itself has no laws mandating any worker protections from heat.

There's also HB 433 which was filed immediately after Miami-Dade's rules (after a worker's death) was delayed from being implemented.

Republicans actually gave corporations tax credits (not deductions .. FREE money) for moving factories overseas in the 2001 & 2003 tax bills.

In 2004 the democrats proposed a tax bill that would STOP the tax credits for taking jobs overseas and the GOP blocked it.

Says all you need to know about what utter pieces of ---- the GQP is to their voters.

But hey, they will come up with a catch phrase like "right to work states" which is just their cute way of naming laws that outlaw union shops and force workers into working for minimum wage (which they have not raised since 2009).

Problem is their stupid ass voters will fall for this bull.

Red states have some of the lowest standards of living for workers, highest poverty rates, highest obesity rates, lowest gdp, etc and the voters still buy into the bull that the GQP is working for them.

But 2000 or later is just fine and your apparent argument from incredulity is noted.

You really haven't addressed the point beyond pointing out that Limbaugh existed, which must mean the perception by many many people of a change in their love one's demeanors and characters as they became bigger and bigger Trump supporters is wrong. I'm old enough to clearly remember Limbaugh's earliest years. His influence came through also because he provided the script for every local rightwing DJ hack who came on after him. Some had their own dittohead clones. His influence on the ratings had coattails.
