Rick Wilson: The architects of the coming Russian victory in Europe and the enablers of the new axis of autocracy between Russia, China, and Iran aren't in Moscow, Tehran, or Beijing. They're in Washington, D.C., and every last one of them is a Republican.

In the ongoing decline and fall of the Republican party, we've reached a signature moment. MAGA's embrace of autocratic and authoritarian leaders and movements, its utter abandonment of America's role in the world, and its betrayal of the alliances and principles that defined the post-war global order is shocking, but the trend lines now point to a full alliance with the darkest forces on the world stage by the Trump GOP.

I know it's easy to blame Donald Trump, Comrade Carlson, and the Bannon tendency, and I most certainly do give Trump and his scruffy allies the goat's share of blame for this, but the deeper rot in the GOP's hatred of our allies and embrace of our enemies also involves many people who Know Better, at least on paper.

They've picked a side, and it's Putin.

excerpts

"The Smart Guys from the Meritocracy -- J.D. Vance, Josh Hawley, Tucker Carlson, et al. -- have all leaped into the arms of a Russian autocrat hell-bent on realigning the entirety of Europe in his image. They engage in endless moral panics over immigrants, Muslims, "duh Chinese Communist Party" -- and laugh off Putin's unjustified, illegal, and brutal campaign of war crimes and the deliberate targeting of civilians."

.

"These are not serious people.

They are not moral people. They are the Guilty Men of our era, more morally culpable than Chamberlain, Halifax, and the rest of pacifist magical thinkers in the days before World War II.

The entire charade of elaborate maneuvers in Washington in the last few weeks over the border issue has resolved down to a single cause: the desire by a meaningful and growing fraction of the Republican party to ensure Vladimir Putin's victory in Ukraine."

.

"I was baffled by it for a while, wondering if the fever would break, but these days, if you place your bets on the fever never breaking and Republicans doing the worst possible thing for America and the world, you're always much better off.

Republicans in Washington have embraced Trumpism, Putinism, and the rest of the slurry of autocratic tendencies across the globe, from Orban to MBS.

Putin cannot believe his good fortune; he desperately wants Trump back if office, but in the meantime, owning the Republican party is getting him more leverage than he ever imagined."

.

The America Firsters today are the same as the ones in the 1930s who would have stood and watched as the Axis Powers took control of the rest of the world.... and then came for the USA.

FDR, and those like him, are the only reason we aren't all speaking German here today.

The vast majority of Republicans don't mind that Putin has taken over the GOP.
The vast majority of Republicans welcome Putin as their ideological leader, with Trump as Putin's Chief Deputy.

The sad things is that no GOPhers on this site even feel the need to come on this thread and deny it. The truth of the matter, frankly, is undeniable.

Yeah, I agree.

At this point, Pres Putin taking over the GOP (via fmr Pres Trump) seems to be all but a given.

"What has happened to the GOP?"

After years of plotting and scheming for the death of democracy in favor of an authoritarian one-party rule, they think they can finally see daylight at the end of the tunnel.

There are a few more hurdles in their path, tho. 91 of them to be exact. That and keeping their leader out of prison.

#8 | Posted by Twinpac at 2024-02-12 12:19 AM | Reply

The GOP is using more than one playbook.

They're following the same early path the Nazi Party took in their bid to establish a Thousand Year Reich in Germany.

If successful, the GOP could easily succumb to their belief in their own omnipotence.

In fact, Trump's followers are already being led to refer to him in God-like terms such as a Messiha or one anointed by God.

Ignoring, of course, that Trump does not possess a single Christian quality. Not one!

Since they no longer adhere to any Christian religion, that's expected.

Do you deny that putin supports the republican party?

#12 | POSTED BY SPEAKSOFTLY

I don't think Mr. Putin wants to destroy America, mainly because there's no money to be made from a pile of smoldering ashes.

He just wants to own America, or at least have a controlling interest. Mr. Putin has his own plans for Russia's expansion, and he needs to keep the U.S. and NATO out of his way. That makes Donald Trump/GOP his lynchpin.

The plan isn't hard to understand. By keeping Trump and the GOP in power, both Putin and the GOP get what they've both wanted for many years.

Russia gets its expansion, and the GOP gets its autocracy. And everybody gets filthy rich except us worker bees who then become conscripted to support their life of bloated luxury.

"A group of GOP lawmakers spent July 4 in Moscow after several days of meetings with Russian officials, according to NPR.

The group, which included seven Republican senators and one House member, was the first congressional delegation to visit Russia since the country's annexation of Crimea in 2014.

The GOP lawmakers, Sen. Richard Shelby (Ala.), Steve Daines (Mont.), John Thune (S.D.), John Kennedy (La.), Jerry Moran (Kan.) and John Hoeven (N.D.), and Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas), spent July 4 in Moscow's U.S. Embassy, NPR reported.?

So these same GOP members that the writer says are in Putin's pocket fully support all the money we have and will be sending to Ukraine. And secondly Putin didn't invade when a Republican was in office because of superior foreign policy. That's what our foreign policy should be focused on, preventing wars. Under Biden there have been 3 global conflicts that could have been prevented if the Dem leadership had a spine.

Vlad didn't have to invade when he had Donald telling NATO he would support Putin's invasion and withdraw the US from NATO.

Which is anything but, "superior foreign policy". It's a direct breach of our agreements with NATO.

So the GOP controls congress, how much $ have we sent to Ukraine?

@#25 ... So the GOP controls congress, how much $ have we sent to Ukraine? ...

The GOP controls the House which, in turn, controls the purse strings.

How much money has the House authorized for Ukraine since [Trump ring-kisser] Spkr Johnson took over?

How has the attitude of the House GOP toward Ukraine changed since the Putin surrogate, fmr Pres Trump, has begun in earnest to exert his will over the GOP House members?

They are simple questions ...

#25 | POSTED BY FISHPAW

A lot less than if we had to confront them directly. Maybe you should also ask how much have we forced Pooty Pants to spend? Cheapest foreign policy initiative to stop Russia aggression and degrade their military and economy ever.

For all its mistaken use as a political hot potato in budget talks, the $43 billion on U.S. military aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded amounts to about 5% of the U.S. defense budget and less than 1% of total government spending.Oct 4, 2023

Ukraine has already destroyed 50% of Russia's military might by some measures, forcing Putin to spend well over $150 billion on the country's military replenishment. Ukraine's counteroffensive may not be going as fast as some would have liked, but it is making progress. Economically, sanctions combined with the exodus of over 1,000 private sector companies have choked Russia's economy, with some sectors down from 60 to 90%.

Hey Fishpaw.
Past performance is no guarantee of future results.

However, the flow of Western aid to Ukraine looked uncertain in late 2023 as new funding measures were trapped in political logjams in both the United States and European Union. In the former, some $60 billion for Ukraine has become tied into contentious debates over border security and Israel.

"But according to Lowell, Bobulinski was not present at the February 2017 meeting in Miami and "was not ... privy to any discussions." Lowell cited WhatsApp messages Bobulinski sent days after that meeting to another business associate expressing frustration that he was not invited to attend the meeting.

In fact, according to the communications described by Lowell, Bobulinski was even not aware that Hunter Biden was part of the joint venture until nearly a week after the Miami meeting.

"This was all done to advance a debunked conspiracy theory that somehow Joseph Biden was involved in [Hunter] Biden's business venture with [the Chinese firm], including as Vice President," Lowell wrote."
