Feminism made the error of telling us to behave and think like men. This error was a grave one, and women like myself are paying for it, like gamblers in a casino that has been fixed. We are not men, and in living the single life, with its casual encounters, we play for much higher stakes and have more to lose. I wish I had not been taught to throw the dice so high. Even Shakespeare's princes needed someone to look after them in their old age.

BTW, Laura,

Are you speaking for women on this topic?

Can you tell me what qualifies you to be able to do that?

At least they have their cats right?!? Meanwhile if white guys can't find a sane white woman are marrying Asians and Latina women who don't spew the garbage and actually enjoy the differences of each of the two sexes and appreciate marriage.

Congratulations liberal white women!

Now why would any man take that deal, when as the author says, women play for much higher stakes and have more to lose?

The cited "article" is an OpEd.

From that cited OpEd...

... I increasingly feel that feminism has failed my generation. It is a peculiarity of the West that it is divided into sets which differ profoundly in their beliefs. This state of affairs began with the Reformation and has grown more pronounced ever since. There were Protestants and Catholics who differed fundamentally not only on faith but on practical matters. It was among Protestant communities that feminism first emerged, and it is in Protestant countries such as America and Britain in which feminist beliefs have been at their most vocal and strident in tone, like a religion with no dilution of agnosticism. Margaret Thatcher, though she would have denied it, was a feminist de facto, and no Catholic country could have produced her like.

In one of those encounters that make life instructive, I met Lady Thatcher at my late father's house, when I was 13. She had recently become prime minister and after our introduction she began to address me, as Queen Victoria once said of Gladstone, as if I was a public meeting. The gist of her address would have been greeted with hosannas by every feminist of the age; in summation, a woman's career superseded by far her relations with the opposite sex. (Her own union might as well have been to a cipher as opposed to a husband. Indeed, when the Thatchers dined with us, Denis withdrew to the drawing room with the women.)

At my private school, St Paul's Girls' School, we children of Thatcher were similarly educated out of marriage and distaff pursuits. I recall an occasion when Shirley Conran attempted to upbraid us with the words, "Paulinas do not cook, they think." This is all very well when you are young and aspire to greatness. Shakespeare says, "When beggars die, there are no comets seen; / The heavens themselves blaze forth the death of princes." ...

So, Ms Wyatt seems to be droning on about her apparent misinterpretations of what life has presented to her?

I increasingly feel that feminism has failed my generation.

Well then she should shut up, resign from her job, get in the kitchen, cook dinner, wash the dishes, never vote again, accept being slapped around with no recourse, stop reading, throw away all her credit cards and close all bank accounts her father or husband didn't get for her, relinquish all property, and keep all her opinions to herself.

Because she's taking for granted the freedoms which women, who were considered feminists at any given time, regardless what they were asking for, fought hard for and achieved.

she was hooked up with Boris Johnson for 4 years from 2000-2004.

--What she's saying ...since you robotic rumps don't want to get it...is adhering to the feminist manifesto

all those years means that today she's got nobody.

guess ending up lonely and ugly wasn't in the handbook.

But let's not forget the ironclad !!! requirement of the "house"

#32 | Posted by LampLighter at 2024-04-25 09:53 PM | Reply

It seems like her personal life left her unhappy, but I don't think she should blame her poor romantic choices on feminism:

Between 2000 and 2004, Wyatt had an affair with the then editor of The Spectator and Conservative MP Boris Johnson.[10] Johnson had promised to leave his wife, and the affair had resulted in a terminated pregnancy and a miscarriage.[11] When her mother found out about the affair, she discussed it with the press.[5][10] Johnson was fired from his shadow cabinet post by party leader Michael Howard for lying about the affair, after he had initially categorically denied it.[10][12]

I posted it because she is 55, not 90. Her life isn't over unless she decides it is. Yes, it is too late for her to bear her own children, but that is not the only way to have children in your life. There are many women in their 50s who find themselves without a partner for any number of reasons, including divorce or the death of their spouse. That doesn't mean they have to resign themselves to being alone till the end of their days.

And they got that, at least for the here and now. Then lost it with the abortion of Roe.

If women are equal, why should it matter if a woman wants to go through life as a man?

#38 | Posted by snoofy at 2024-04-25 10:43 PM | Reply

PS One thing feminism sure as hell didn't tell this woman was to go have an affair with a married man, believe him when he said he was going to leave his wife and get pregnant multiple times with him.
