Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday signed a bill allowing religious leaders and "patriotic organizations" to interact with students in school, a move that the Satanic Temple plans to contest. HB 1317 authorizes school districts to bring in "patriotic organizations," such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, The Boy Scouts of America, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and more.

"Some have said that if you do a school chaplain program, that somehow you're going to have Satanists running around in all our schools," he said at the press conference Thursday. "We're not playing those games in Florida. That is not a religion. That is not qualifying to be able to participate in this."

Any republican religionistas wish to weigh in on a state governor dictating what is a real religion?

One supposes that Islam will also be ruled out as a religion in Florida.

But hey, the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers can recruit in FL schools for the next Capitol Riot!

"HB 931 establishes a statewide school chaplain program, which means schools can invite religious affiliates to provide counseling and other services to students who want it and have written permission from their parents."

Sunday school is not enough? There must be some chaplains that want a check. This "law" will be tossed out. You can't pick and choose what org visits when it comes to religion.

DeSantis is struggling to get the attention of the Christoloons. Casey must've told him he has a chance to do and be ... oh, something, anything ... after his sheet-show attempt to sell manure as mink, aka presidential boot race. There is no bottom for these people.

I wonder what "patriotic" organizations that "and more" entails?

The Prayer of the Rev. C. Horner Redwine of The Church of God the Utterly Indifferent:

"Oh Lord Most High, Creator of the Cosmos, Spinner of Galaxies, Soul of Electromagnetic Waves, Inhaler and Exhaler of Inconceivable Volumes of Vacuum, Spitter of Fire and Rock, Trifler with Millennia " what could we do for Thee that Thou couldst not do for Thyself one octillion times better? Nothing. What could we do or say that could possibly interest Thee? Nothing. Oh, Mankind, rejoice in the apathy of our Creator, for it makes us free and truthful and dignified at last. No longer can a fool point to a ridiculous accident of good luck and say, 'Somebody up there likes me.' And no longer can a tyrant say, 'God wants this or that to happen, and anyone who doesn't help this or that to happen is against God.' O Lord Most High, what a glorious weapon is Thy Apathy, for we have unsheathed it, have thrust and slashed mightily with it, and the claptrap that has so often enslaved us or driven us into the madhouse lies slain!"

"patriotic organizations"

Is there anyone here who:
1. Is a Republican
2. Sees the creeping fascism

That's unfair. I shouldn't discriminate like that. I'm sure the scout leaders and protestants are looking forward to the new opportunities to molest kids and cover it up too.

I'm not sure where the confidence in the courts comes from. They will rule the way their conservatives masters want them to rule. It's no coincidence they refer to these men (make no mistake the vast majority of these "counselors" will be men) as "chaplains" and not pastors, priests or ministers. Congress has chaplains, so does the military. The Courts have never sought to apply Constitutional scrutiny to them.
The real trick being played here is leaving it up to local districts to decide how to institute the law. Now school board elections can be about which candidate supports "religious freedom" and which don't.
"Vote for Karen Lynn Homemaker who supports putting god back in public schools, not the immoral satanic tree worshiper who will send your kids straight to hell."

From your link:

He also described himself as a "Christ-loving atheist" in that same talk, and in a Palm Sunday sermon he gave at St. Clements Episcopal Church in New York City in 1980, he said he was "a Christ-worshipping agnostic." He belonged to no church, however, and made clear that he was not a Christian.

Makes perfect sense to me. I like the idea that a Jesus possibly existed. I also like good philosophy Teachers. But I am also more of Jesus loving agnostic. Because Jesus was no more the son of a god than any of us. He said He and the Father are one. Just as we are all one with the Father (or the Source).

"Billy Pilgrim" says the most important thing he learned on Tralfamadore" was that "when a person dies he only appearsto die. He is still very much alive in the past, present and future, always has existed, always will exist. . .When a Tralfamadorian sees a corpse, all he thinks is that the dead person is in bad condition in that particular moment, but that the person is just fine in plenty of other moments. Now, when I myself hear that somebody is dead, I simply shrug and say what The Tralfamadoreans say about dead people, which is

So it goes.'"

Time. What a concept. He was closer to the truth than we knew at the Time. You think you live in the "now"? Turns out that's not actually possible.

If you want to get into West Point or Annapolis a good path is to become an Eagle Scout.

Florida itself is a beautiful state. Or at least it was when I visited there. I was at Tyndall AFB and that area was gorgeous.

They just need better leaders. And they are coming. See representative Maxwell Frost (D) for details on that.

And to give DeSatan some credit he signed a social media law that limits what children can do in the internet until they are older. I think it was a terrible mistake to give our children unlimited access to the internet. It was an experiment we performed on our children and it has backfired miserably.

It's just too bad DeSatan passed it first. It prohibits children under the age of 14 from becoming social media account holders and allows 14- and 15-year-olds to become account holders with parental consent.

Hopefully other states will soon follow.

I loved the Boy Scouts. They are definitely patriotic and it also gave me an edge in life and made me a better Marine.

Unfortunately it attracted the wrong kind of leaders because those kind of people tend to go to where the children are. But I personally did not encounter any of them. Fortunately I had very good scout leaders. Very very good.

I also loved the Boy Scouts. Our troop leader was Jewish which really cracked me up, having been a Cub Scout in rural Virginia were Jews were pretty much a non-presence.

But since that time they went Anti-Woke, with refusing to allow atheists, a fight they took all the way to the Supreme Court. I would have not been allowed in, if they pressed me on truly believing in their mythology. Of course it was intended to be that way from the start, Virtue Signaling America's Greatness to impressionable youth, at a time when atheism was simply not tolerated, like being left-handed, but that's another story.

From the 631 bill "religious affiliates to provide counseling and other services to students." I sure hope none of those chaplains were former Catholic priests.

I imagine that will be thrown out.
The Court established in Erznoznik v. City of Jacksonville that speech, even that which may be harmful to minors, is protected except in very limited circumstances. The Roberts Court also ruled in Brown v Entertainment Merchants Association that a California law designed to protect children from violent video games did not establish that the state had an interest in protecting children from psychological or neurological harm to minors allegedly caused by video games and even if the state had such an interest, the law was too broad to meet the objective.

Similar laws have already been been temporarily blocked by courts such as the one in Ohio. www.reuters.com

Loons on the right got all upset by separation of church and state. It was very deliberate by the founding fathers. They also knew it was a slippery slope. They didn't qualify it for this very reason. By inviting this faith or that one in you while not allowing others then you are in fact creating a defacto state religion for that school.

True... and it was a letter from the Danbury Baptist group to Abraham Lincoln requesting this separation that resulted in Thomas Jefferson's responding letter to them where he first coined the, "wall between church and State" metaphor.... although Roger Williams also used it.

"In keeping with the lack of an established state religion in the United States, unlike in many European nations at the time, Article Six of the United States Constitution specifies that "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States" meaning that there will be no official state religion lawfully established."

hmmmmmm... ya know... it's feasible that Wiccans can be chaplains too.

Let's all look at the possibilities...

For example:
A Bhikkhu, Imam, and Guru walk into a Florida school... to apply for the job.

Wait! Hold up!

Is this some kind of joke?
