More from the article...

... Why it matters: Hybrid work is emerging as the clear winner in the post-pandemic work world, a surprise from a few years ago when it seemed like a fully at-home revolution was underway.

Hybrid workers are happier: Their "engagement" with work increased in 2024 from the previous year, while it fell for those fully in-person or fully at home, per Morning Consult, which has been surveying workers on the topic since 2022.

Zoom in: This is a conversation mainly confined to white-collar knowledge workers. Most people still work in person, though that doesn't mean they like it. ...

One important aspect I keep in mind throughout all this ~remote work~ conversation, and something hinted at in the cited article, the good people who keep our Country running, among them, the electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc., they have no choice.

They cannot work remotely.

They are there when you need them.

imo, that is a most critical aspect in any discussion about remote work.

That is, I am focused upon those who cannot work remotely, but ~have to be there.~

None of those people are forced to go to the same building every day. It's literally what they signed up for and they get to travel to customers.

Every time I read a 'study' like this, I want to know who ran or performed the study,
and who they are allied with. I have read more than one article along this vein written
by business interest groups, who of course want people back in the work place.

As with understanding all things, context is everything.

I have one full time job and two part time contract gigs. All are work from home except my full time where I travel once a month over NC and SC.

I wouldnt give this up for the world. I love being at home and being able to do things during the day someone shackled at an on premise job cannot do. It gives me flexibility and a great quality of life.

Again, it's a life choice. Life choices and when we make them in our lives make a huge difference.

How could you not?

Some mornings you just don't want to sit through traffic to get to an office and sit under bright lights and an AC vent you can't control. Having the option to stay home sometimes is great.

I worked from home for a couple of years pre pandemic and liked it quite a bit. Usually, the needs of the job resulted in me having to go into the office one day a week and I liked that too.

Zoom is good and efficient but sometimes we need to interact face to face.

More Americans Now Prefer Hybrid over Fully Remote Work

Lol! No.

And any employer who tries to force employees back into the office using this study as cover will find that their best employees will quietly find other employment.

"The best employees are the most likely to leave over return-to-office mandates, new survey says.
Women and millennials were also more likely to leave a company that enforced return-to-office policies."

At this stage of career, I would look for fully remote work before going back into office. Thankfully, my company would have to fly me to Bermuda or Hong Kong to do that..

Fully remote is the bomb. And it is too late for me to shift and
look for other work. Only 5 years out from retirement. I wouldn't
mind 1 day a week in the office, but they are demanding 2 days, and
want 3 days, back to where our policy was before COVID and all of the
changes which followed.

For me this issue has ALWAYS been about Middle Management, and nothing
else. They are not happy, unless they can physically 'lord over people'
at least a few times a week. It's disgusting to me, and wholly unnecessary.

But I do acknowledge that inner city businesses, restaurants, office building
space, etc...are getting crushed since COVID. Sadly, if society chooses to
shift in the remote work direction, somebody has to lose. Just facts...

I retired at the end of last year. I took a new job immediately so have never been really retired. Next month I start a hybrid schedule. For the first time in 35 years I won't have to go into the office every day. I'll work in the office 3 days a week and 2 days from home. I'm absolutely ecstatic about it. I don't want to be fully at home. That would drive me crazy. But two days a week working in my bathrobe and slippers? Yeah. That I can do. Totally. And any job that offers that to me is the automatic winner if I find the need to leave where I am.

People want to work remotely but prefer hybrid over going to the office everyday. It's not hard to figure out.

I agree. It really depends on the person. I prefer Hybrid personally. People massively underestimate the value of face time.

Hybrid actually does make the most sense for many positions.

I have a fully remote job, and have for over 7 years now, and I would love a hybrid position where I got to choose the frequency. Some days it makes sense to be home, head down, and getting ---- done. Other heavy meeting days, deep discussions, etc... I would rather be in person.
