Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, April 06, 2024

Economic experts are happily surprised by the just-released March jobs report, which -- contrary to expectations -- saw unemployment has dropped further, overall employment has grown, and wages continue to outpace inflation.

One little problem here if you dig down in the data:

"However, a closer examination of the data reveals that the majority of these gains can be attributed to two key factors: a record-breaking increase in government positions and a rise in the employment of foreign-born workers."

Dig into this.

President Trump took office at the crest of the longest economic expansion in U.S. history. He leaves presiding over the worst labor market in modern U.S. history, as an already-sputtering economic recovery has turned negative.
Friday's awful jobs report from the Labor Department showed there were still 3 million fewer jobs in the United States than there were on Inauguration Day 2017, when Trump stood in front of the Capitol and vowed to reverse the American carnage.

Let's DO dig down in the data:

www.bls.gov

Unemployment DOWN.
Labor participation UP.
Hours worked per week UP.
Wages UP (and exceeding inflation).
Inflation DOWN.

Even if one were to toss ALL the government positions and ALL the foreign-born worker jobs in this report, it still would be a decently positive jobs report.

Hat tip to the reference to "foreign-born workers". Yeah, I know it doesn't claim they are illegal aliens. Clever "dog whistle" duly noted.

BTW, it's standard practice to give credit for direct quotations. Where did that quoted paragraph come from?

Seems that for some people there doesn't exist a big enough silver lining that they won't point out a cloud.

What's wrong with either of those?
Governments have been understaffed for years. Here in St. Louis we've seen a big reduction in our law enforcement shortage in recent month due to increased hiring.
The economy is considered to be at full employment when unemployment is below 5% which it has been since August of 2021. Continued economic gains require immigrant labor at that point. Do you have a problem with legal immigrant labor? Unemployment numbers do not factor in the undocumented unemployed since they are not eligible for unemployment benefits.

Most, apparently, in local government (49.000).

Doesn't really matter.

Working for the government pays better than private, and the pension is outrageous.

The more people taken out of the private sector into the public sector, means you erode your new revenue tax base. Sure a government employee pays taxes, but Fed employees don't pay SS. And I don't believe State and local pay into it if the State has a FICA replacement plan.

Governments have been understaffed for years.

You do realize the just put people into different categories, like "not looking for work" to make the "unemployment" number politically viable. (Both sides do this, ergo nothing the government states is reality)

Growth in local government implies more services to support ongoing economic growth. A lot of small towns had to increase government to accommodate a growing population. Increased government labor is taking it's slice from the new pool, not the yokel labor with no white-collar skills.

You're just a hysterical little cooze begging for attention.

You ran into this thread begging for my dick.

Now you're getting slapped around by it and you're crying you can't handle it.

Not my fault you're an idiot.

Man up and accept responsibility for your own decisions.

Let that anger flow.

It's delightful to see you so bent out of shape this early in the morning.

The anger will fester within you and turn your day into shht.

It's my gift to you.

"begging for my dick."

at least you don't pretend you believe you can convince anybody of anything...you know you're completely devoid of any such skill.

not just here....but anywhere.

How does it feel to be devoid of any interpersonal skills and to be valued so little as a result?

It's obvious the anger and hostility are cute on this site and we are all entertained by it....but in real life? Not a good look. Not valued....but you should know that by now.

I leave all the pretending to you.

You're an expert at it.

You're confused. A follower. A coward. A loser. A liar.

How much effort are you putting into your posts?

Seems like you really want to convince me of something.

All you're convincing everyone else is how desperate you are for my attention and how sad your trolling is.

trading insults requires no effort on my part.

It's all you ever do so my guess it's a little more laboring for you.

I'm just playing --- for tat.

I could talk about your dick or your ass or your shht.....but that's silly......LOL

So that's why you're so bad at it.

You're a fat entitled loser who expects life to be handed to him and is bitter at his lot in life.

No wonder you're a republican.

Meanwhile, in the land of voters outside of the Dem it's-always-good-news Bubble

"Inflation and high prices remain the electorate's top concern and dominate voters' assessment of the economy. In a just-released Economist/YouGov survey, 22% of voters identify inflation/prices as their most important issue, compared to only seven percent who cite jobs and the economy. According to a Data for Progress analysis, 68% of those who put inflation and prices first named the cost of food as their principal concern, followed by housing (17%), utilities (eight percent), and gas (three percent)."

Not even 10 days old. Researchers are finding this massive disconnect between politics and people's opinions is due high interest rates effect on inflation. "Inflation DOWN!" doesn't resonate when debt is a lot more expensive.

That's like the 12th projection from clownshack just on this thread alone.

So transparent. My words cut him in half.

So he repeats them.

I've clearly taken up space in that empty head of yours.

You sad sack of desperation.

I guess you succeeded, BellRinger is no longer the biggest idiot on this thread, not with you around to take his place.

"the biggest idiot on this thread"

Not sure how to determine that. Not with you personally attacking at least 3 different posters on this thread alone.

My goal was to make it about you and your attacks.

Mission accomplished.

Its clear my job here is done.

On another thread we have a poster trying to make the argument these same people can make the connection between wealth inequality and deficit spending.

No....obviously not. People appear to be focused on what directly impacts them right in front of their faces. prices of food, housing, etc.

I'm curious to know how many of these jobs are government jobs or part time jobs.

The number of people employed part time for economic reasons, at 4.3 million, changed little in March. These individuals, who would have preferred full-time employment, were working part time because their hours had been reduced or they were unable to find full-time jobs. In March, employment in government increased by 71,000, higher than the average monthly gain of 54,000 over the prior 12 months. Over the month, employment increased in local government (+49,000) and federal government (+9,000).

Do you not consider government jobs a valid form of employment?

Is it because Trump has promised to decimate the federal government. Which will result in the loss of employment for millions of Americans.
