The scientists from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois have discovered a reservoir of water that is three times the size of all of Earth's oceans, deep beneath the planet's surface.

I am really intrigued by this. I have always found earth science interesting.

So the mantle is made primarily of Silicates. We have known "water" is found in the mantle for over a decade. We know this because Ringwoodite (a form of olivine) contains about 1.5% water in the form of hydroxide ions (HO-) in its lattice). Ringwoodite is formed deep in the mantle under intense pressure. We had known of Ringwoodite from meteors but about 10 years ago, it was found in Brazil and determined to be from within the earth.

Now to hear there is an actual and truly massive body of water encased in Ringwoodite deep in the mantle? Mind blowing. This is also deeper than what is thought to be the Ringwoodite formation zone. I can't wait to read more about it.

Can't wait for the religious nuts to claim this supports the global flood.

Yeah, they must be incredibly anxious to inspect the archeology of Doggerland.

I've always enjoyed the comment that we know more about what happens on the moon than we do the ocean floor.

It'd be great if they'd all jump in an exploratory hole and go all the way down to check it out.

The descent and incredible heat at the bottom should prepare them for what comes after their last breath.

Great. Now we're going to be awash in "Megs". The Statham prophecy is coming true.

I wonder what the average water temperature is.

Science continues to add to human knowledge.

While religion continues to stick to rules based on ancient fairytales.

If it's liquid, the temp would be below 212 F.

As a planet, we're going to have to start desalinizing the oceans in a massive way pretty soon, what with rising oceans and drying up aquifers.

Or, or, or Unity, we could just change our dead ender ways...

That would be the rational approach. However, half of America has their head in the sand ...
