Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, March 10, 2024

Prepare yourself emotionally: You are about to lose an hour of sleep overnight. Daylight saving time starts at 2 a.m. on March 10, 2024, the second Sunday of March. The morning will stay dark a little later than you're used to, but that also means daylight will stretch an hour further into the afternoon and evening.

Yeah, same here. 62% of Americans want to get rid of it but apparently that's not enough.

Guess our government really loves BBC (Big Black Clock).

If our pols were really interested in unity, abolishing time change is the first best place to start.

Ha. Didn't notice a thing.

I just went to bed an hour early.

Plus we have dogs. They know exactly what time it is no matter what the clocks say.

When it's time to pee it's time to pee! When it's time to eat it's time to eat! When it's time to chase a cat it's time to chase a cat.

Here in Arizona, I only have to change about 9 weekly mandatory meeting reminders... I hope the rest of the U.S. will soon lose the silly daylight savings bit.

I think the main issue is which one to ditch - standard time or DST?

The US Congress tried to settle on "permanent" DST in December of 1973 - for an experimental period of 2 years, to see if it would really save energy... but reinstated biannual time change just 8 months later, because people hated dark mornings. Instead, DST was expanded to 7 months in 1986, and to 8 months in 2007, from March to November - the usual rationale being to "stretch the daylight" as far as possible without having the negatives of late sunrises in the winter.

This is how it would look like in Canada, with 6 time zones:

Standard time is at least based on something.
