Global carmakers are stepping up their investment in hybrid technologies as consumers' growing wariness over fully electric vehicles forces the industry to rapidly shift gear, according to top executives. A combination of still high interest rates and concern over inadequate charging infrastructure has chilled buyers' enthusiasm for fully electric cars, prompting a rebound in sales of hybrid vehicles that most of the industry had long regarded as nothing more than a stop-gap.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham didn't seem to appreciate how CNN reported on Stormy Daniels' testimony Thursday in Donald Trump's criminal trial -- especially an instance in which Stormy Daniels revealed that a past tweet of hers describing an "orange turd" was, in fact, a reference to the indicted former president. A week after taking umbrage at the rival network's discussion of Michael Cohen calling his former boss "Von ShitzInPants," and how that crass nickname had come up during the hush-money trial, Ingraham had a similar reaction during her opening monologue. "They are actually arguing over who the orange turd is that Stormy Daniels referenced in a tweet," Cooper said. "She says, I absolutely meant Mr. Trump. So Stormy Daniels has in fact clarified who she was talking about when she was talking about flushing an orange turd down the toilet."

For the second consecutive year, disproportionately fewer new doctors across all specialties applied to medical residency programs in states with abortion bans and restrictions, per a new analysis released Thursday. Keeping CO2 levels low reduces infectious airborne viral loads, new research suggests. While the study focused on the pathogen behind COVID-19, it has clear implications for reducing the risk of transmitting viruses in spaces where ventilation is limited. "Opening a window may be more powerful than originally thought," says University of Bristol chemist Allen Haddrell, "especially in crowded and poorly ventilated rooms, as fresh air will have a lower concentration of CO2, causing the virus to become inactivated much faster."

Deputies responding to a disturbance call at a Florida apartment complex burst into the wrong unit and fatally shot a Black U.S. Air Force airman who was home alone when they saw he was armed with a gun, an attorney for the man's family said Wednesday. Senior Airman Roger Fortson, 23, who was based at the Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field, was in his off-base apartment in Fort Walton Beach when the shooting happened on May 3. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump said in a statement that Fortson was on a Facetime call with a woman at the time of the encounter.

ProPublica has found the NYPD site for allowing the public to track officers' misconduct is shockingly unreliable. Cases against officers frequently vanish from the site for days -- sometimes weeks -- at a time. The issue affects nearly all of the officers in the database, with discipline disappearing from the profiles of patrol officers all the way up to its most senior uniformed officer.
