As California state leaders hunt for solutions to a budget shortfall, some Democrats are proposing unorthodox ways to generate cash. Assemblyman Charles Calderon has proposed a 25% tax on sex toys, strip shows, pornographic magazines and videos and anything else sold in an "adult entertainment venue."

Michigan's lost Democratic delegation may be a step closer to this summer's convention in Denver. The delegation, stripped of its convention credentials when state party leaders scheduled a Jan. 15 primary in violation of national rules, could finally be seated under a compromise the state party's executive committee endorsed Wednesday night. Under that proposal -- hammered out weeks ago by Sen. Carl Levin, Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger and National Committeewoman Debbie Dingell -- Sen. Hillary Clinton would get 69 of the state's delegates and Sen. Barack Obama, 59.

After many voters had already gone to sleep, the conventional wisdom of the elite political pundit class that resides on television shifted hard, and possibly irretrievably, against Senator Hillary Clinton's continued viability as a presidential candidate. The moment came shortly after midnight Eastern time, captured in a devastatingly declarative statement from Tim Russert of NBC News: "We now know who the Democratic nominee's going to be, and no one's going to dispute it," he said on MSNBC. "Those closest to her will give her a hard-headed analysis, and if they lay it all out, they'll say: 'What is the rationale? What do we say to the undeclared super delegates tomorrow? Why do we tell them you're staying in the race?' And tonight, there's no good answer for that." (See the video.)

INDIANAPOLIS, IND.---Here's the official Obama team spin on what is shaping up as a likely Indiana loss: "There really has never been any question that Senator Clinton would win Indiana," said a Obama talking points memo out Tuesday. Team Obama also blames Rush Limbaugh for urging Republicans to infiltrate the primary and vote for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Like most people in Mingo County, West Virginia, Leonard Simpson is a lifelong Democrat. But given a choice between Barack Obama and John McCain in November, the 67-year-old retired coalminer would vote Republican.

"I heard that Obama is a Muslim and his wife's an atheist," said Mr Simpson, drawing on a cigarette outside the fire station in Williamson, a coalmining town of 3,400 people surrounded by lush wooded hillsides.

From the article:

1. Show of hands, how many of you think this "Muslim thing" is a nice convenient cover for some who may not want to admit the real reason why they won't vote for Obama, he is black? Since when is it acceptable in America that people refuse to vote for people on account of their religion or race?

2. I read a comment on Saturday on the DR where someone was complaining about Obama supporters laughing at poor white (West Virgina) people an so on. Well, may I suggest that if they want our respect that they earn it. They could do that by not being backwards and dense. As long as they keep acting like 19th throwbacks, people will keep laughing at them.

University research contributes to global warming

www.environmental-expert.com

"Add university research to the long list of human activities contributing to global warming. Herv Philippe, a Universit de Montral professor of biochemistry, is a committed environmentalist who found that his own research produces 44 tonnes of CO2 per year. The average American citizen produces 20 tonnes. Herv Philippe"I did my PhD on nucleotide sequencing in the hope of advancing our knowledge of biodiversity, but I never thought that the research itself could have a negative impact on biodiversity," he said, during a recent biology department symposium."

How ironic is this!

At least these impersonators are not protected by the badged and coddled by the authorities even when they are trigger-happy assassins.

If I were a travel agaen in Europe I would be recommend people not to travel to NYC since it's so dangerous, sometimes you have to fear the real police more than the actual criminals.
