I supported Hillary, even played with the idea of backing McCain in 0'7, then I saw Hillary run a Limbaugh styled campaign, and I started listening to Obama, and I heard a pragmatist balanced by idealism -- never saw the Limbaugh boogie man, but that's because it never existed -- and now I'm seeing the pragmatic idealist I came to support acting like a pragmatic idealist. And man is that refreshing.
He don't walk on no water, only dimble heads think so or want to make others think that others think so. It's all talk radio bluster, so inconsequential and yesterday. I'm a bit of a cynic, but the night in grant park, transposed with footage of Palin supporters and their misguided belief that they were THE REAL AMERICA, woke me up to just how broad and open and totally kick ass the REAL AMERICA really is. Obama's going to stumble, but his footing appears firm at the moment. God bless and lets move on.

Yes, this is horrible, yes there is blame to be spread way beyond Bush and his miserable stewardship. But when certain lib economists were honking their horns a year, two years ago saying the administrations policies were exasperating a house of cards scenario, I remember many righties on this blog, and on the noise channels, calling those economists -- mostly center left -- naysayer, doomsayers and fools. Just like they did to folks that protested the bullshit war.

The right deserves the share of punishment because they've been wrong every step of the way and have stood in the way of avoiding mistakes and disaster while hawking a past-due model of faux patriotism as their purpose. The right still refuses any responsibility, shows no accountability, after 6 out of 8 years in charge, and 8 in the WH.

If things do go totally toilet, history will look to these previous 8 years as the great unwinding due to sickeningly inept leadership and promotion of a jingoistic incuriousness as a badge to be worn with dunderheaded pride. The brand is rotten, good. But the stink of the brand now clings to the nation, if not the world, and that is almost evil that we have allowed this to happen. As I said, blame goes beyond W. Libs and Dems are not blameless. But the fish rotted from the head down just as it always does. Fess up righties, you fucked your own country, the one you supposedly love, with your fools notion of that love.

No one, except for the simple who bought into the whole "Obama's going to take our guns away and put Rush, Sean and Bill in irons" moron schtick, ever saw the Pres-elect as anything but a man who was going to do his best to uphold the office of the land (as opposed to the immoral failure soon leaving in disgrace) as he worked pragmatically to right the ship. I didn't. I don't know anyone else who did either -- except for the sad soul (though nice guy) I knew who was a regular reader of Newsmax and bought into Rushs' bloviation as if they were words from the mount.

There's a lot of work to be done. And I feel proud to be a part of it, and seeing many Americans inspired to do what needs to be done as well. Sure, most will sit on their asses, but a call to service (small and large) to help fix what Republicans and way-too-comfortable Dems, as well as our own complacency has broken -- yes, Americans, inspired... who'd of thunk it?

He won, I accepted it, still didn't like him, but wanted the country to prosper. 9/11, I cried when he visited the site and pledged my support fully to my President, GW, and then, far as I'm concerned, he betrayed that trust with a wrong war, allowing the perpetrator to escape, and tried to push through a far right agenda that would have crippled the nation -- imagine your SS in the market bush fans. The demonization of unions has always been a republican talking point brimming with hypocrisy -- demanding union workers to take cuts, while wall street runs wild, dragging our economy down with their whims as they moan about the possibilities of a 10 percent cut in their bonuses. Many, not all, of the WS movers and shakers wear their flag pins, but have no honor towards country if it impedes in their acquiring of great wealth; those types should be hunted and strung up by their heels in a palazzo until they learn to put country first (Thanks, Mac). That said, yes, the Unions need to take a long hard look at their part, cuts probably should be forthcoming if they want the industry to survive, much less prosper. Yes, the unions share in the blame, no doubt. But the majority of it goes to a simple fact: the product sucks. It doesn't lead in innovation, design, efficiency, quality. Nothing. It's important to buy American, but as long as American stands for quantity over quality, buying American suffers. MAKE BETTER EFFEN CARS!

I know it shouldn't amaze me; but it does. Who the hell are you people? Do you love your country, or your party? WTF is your problem, children? Be responsible. You belittled people who turned out to be true and right, questioned their love of country, when it is your lack of judgement in regards to truth and character that have contributed to where we are. That said, those that have listened know that we have a major challenge before us that's going to take elbow grease and sacrifice and good ol' American can-do-it-ness. I've got a hunch, could be wrong, but it's a hunch, that millions of Americans are ready to do what's right for AMERICA, do that work, make those sacrifices, making sure we're not only competitive but ready to lead again.

And that is the worse possible scenario for the right. People actually taking part in making the country better. As opposed to just shopping and yawning as our reputation and value to the world diminishes because of right wing hubris and a sick desire to bankrupt government and disenfranchise millions.

Man, if we make this work, if we fight back against each and every devious right wing ploy to keep the country frozen in a state they can later take advantage of, man, oh, man, they are done as a party, at least the current incantation.

BLT, I agree with you on something, a previous post about late night comics and ridiculing Bush, McCain, Palin; yes, Obama is, and should be, fair game for satire and ridicule, no doubt.

He's the president, and part of that job is to be our collective speed bag when we don't like what he's doing, or the point of our laughter when his foibles and quirks become a common picture on the national flat screen. His race, his policies, his manner of stuttering, all of that are out there to be used for comedy, and I, someone who voted for the man and wishes him the best, wouldn't have it any other way.

To hold this man up as someone beyond reproach and ridicule demeans both him and us.
