Been there and yes ,done that. My reasons are much as Doc Sarvis commented. Patriotism is inside of you. You have it or not. To be required to make a pledge repeatedly has nothing to do with patriotism.

In 1968 the same happened to me. I can guarantee that it can not be required on pain of anything. To quietly show respect for the rights of others is just common sense. The principal of my High School(a former Colonel) sent me home with even better, I was thrown out supposedly permanently. After a very quick and easy call to the people that handle such things(guess who), a call was received at the house to the affect, all is forgiven and no record will exist.

I consider myself to be very much patriotic buy don't believe in requiring a repeated pledge(or else) proves anything..Even such paranoid systems such as the USSR never required such a daily(or more often) pledge of loyalty. Do you think that a spy or some such would hesitate to pledge or sign a loyalty oath.

Be respectful and demonstrate your allegiance by your actions not an overly often repeated pledge.

There is a great deal of discussion about when it is appropriate to display(and how) the flag of another nation.

This sounds more like a small minded red-neck genius. If he was serious about how to or not to display the Mexican flag, he would have found a way within the school policy's. The possession and displaying of your former national flag is common to virtually all nationalities. As long as the US flag is not being "shut out" or denigrated and that the display was for a holiday the do it.

When a foreign country's flag is flown to demonstrate an attitude negative to the US then it should be removed if needed by force.

I see and hear a great deal of anti=Mexican propaganda all of the time now. One thing is obvious, none of these people have had much in the way of close association with Latins. As a Southern California resident I have a great deal of contact and find the Mexicans to be quite different than what the "Beaner" haters think.

They tend to run for the most part like every body else. That good, bad and some rotten. Don't hate what you don't know.

One item of contention is always illegal immigration.
This causes problems in many ways for the legal aliens and full citizens. They like us would like the whole issue settled and resolved.

If you don't know them you will miss something they do as well as any. Fiesta.

You don't have to learn Spanish and speak to them in their language they do quite well with English and try (mostly) to learn and be part of the community.

No white wash, there are (as with any group) bad apples. You will have little problem avoiding them and enjoying a Latin experience. Es muy bueno senor!

If this doesn't cause you to experience a sick feeling, you need to find a way to get that sick feeling. Why?

Many entire countries are at or coming to the limit that they can reasonably exist financially and economically. More will put far to many over the top. Just what happens when you push countries or people past their limits?

While there is a small delay in seeing the result of impossible costs, the world will start seeing more and more desperate countries. This will mean violence in increasing amounts.

The shit has already hit the fans full force. Seems OK but think of this, The shit hasn't landed yet. It will.

the best thing about the french appearance, women or men, is that you have to look long and hard to find anyone overweight.

I am of French extraction. If you have been to that wonderful world and found only beauty, why do so many call Paris-The whore that has sold its soul?

I have heard far to many people that weren't there to visit that just under a thin surface the peoplem are about as rude as you can get. I have seen travel show that said "In the event of a dispute, do not pursue the matter as the French will get quickly ugly and the Gendarmes will not help you at all.

Even tourists (friends) are given warning about certain French behaviors to watch for and avoid. So maybe you found a different world or just didn't encounter much of the real local color. Just what the casual visitor sees.

In the US at this time there are a huge amount of total scum bags that need killing badly. These idiots in a best of all possible scenario aren't worth 5cents. It is more likely that same 5 cents would be enough to cause them to rob you.

Let us stop with the bleeding heart crap, make an absolute determination of quilt and get to the end without this ceremony of death.

At such a time as an individual is given a death sentence, every possible method of interogation that is drug, hypnotism what every method(without torture) to get a positive confirmation of quilt. In many cases even this isn't needed as there was photographic or other such definite forms of proof. At such time, execution of sentence is immediate. In such instances where it isn't possible to determine proof to a degree that can't argued. Life without is as bad as we can go. But, ten years down the road, the criminal confesses to anyone. Execution of sentence-now.

It isn't a perfect system but with all rights removed by the imposition of a death sentence the real truth should come out. It might result in freedom or much more likely a lot less time for death row prisoners.

Heartless? Yep. The people out there doing the killing didn't care why should you? It is true that death row inmates just love bleeding hearts. It keeps them alive long past when even bad judgement would have killed the mad dogs.
