Does It Hurt To Be So Ill- Informed ?

Nixon Passed Affirmative Action Laws and Supported Them !!

September 1969
The Nixon administration develops the Philadelphia Plan, which requires contractors on federally supported projects to set minority hiring goals.

Richard Nixon's approval of the Philadelphia Plan during his 1968 presidential term provided the basis for affirmative action. The plan targeted racial bias in the building trades, setting "hiring goals" rather than "quotas," although distinctions between the two terms was never fully clarified. This contradicts popular attribution of affirmative action to Nixon's Democratic predecessors.

"Incredible but true," declared Fortune magazine at the time of Richard M. Nixon's death in 1994. "It was the Nixonites who gave us employment quotas."(1) Until recently, many scholars and journalists have credited Democratic Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson with initiating affirmative action. Yet it was a Republican president who first sanctioned formal goals and time frames to raze barriers to minority employment. Nixon, recalled civil rights leader James Farmer, was the strongest president on affirmative action--up to that point."(2)

www.encyclopedia.com

Kevin Yuill offers some important insights into the origins of affirmative-action policies in this study of Richard Nixon's role during his presidency in expanding programs to increase minority hiring by the government and private employers. Nixon's civil rights record has confounded scholars because of its inconsistencies and contradictions. A conservative who won office in part by appealing to the racist tendencies of white voters, Nixon supported affirmative action while rolling back other civil rights initiatives such as school desegregation, open housing, and antipoverty programs. Definition Of Racist.

Racist:

noun 1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

1. a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

I Have Not Heard Anything That Shows Wright Has Discriminated Against Whites,Especially When He Has White Members Of His Own Church Or That He Believes Blacks Are Superior To Whites.

I Do Know That This:

Huckabee Defends Rev. Jeremiah Wright

"[Y]ou can't hold the candidate responsible for everything that people around him may say or do," Huckabee says. "It's interesting to me that there are some people on the left who are having to be very uncomfortable with what ... Wright said, when they all were all over a Jerry Falwell, or anyone on the right who said things that they found very awkward and uncomfortable, years ago. Many times those were statements lifted out of the context of a larger sermon. Sermons, after all, are rarely written word for word by pastors like Rev. Wright, who are delivering them extemporaneously, and caught up in the emotion of the moment. There are things that sometimes get said, that if you put them on paper and looked at them in print, you'd say 'Well, I didn't mean to say it quite like that.'"

Later, he defended Wright's anger, too:

"As easy as it is for those of us who are white to look back and say 'That's a terrible statement!' ... I grew up in a very segregated South. And I think that you have to cut some slack -- and I'm gonna be probably the only conservative in America who's gonna say something like this, but I'm just tellin' you -- we've gotta cut some slack to people who grew up being called names..."

Pastor Of Clinton's Former Church, Dean Snyder, Defends Jeremiah Wright

The senior minister at Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington D.C., a church that the Clintons attended while in the White House, has risen to the defense of Barack Obama's former minister Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Wright's sermons have created a media firestorm over the last weeks that the Obama tried to dampen in a speech and Clinton recently commented on by saying "he would not have been my pastor." Snyder released a statement praising Wright as an "outstanding church leader" who has been "a profound voice for justice and inclusion in our society."

This morning Snyder appeared on MSNBC and defended Wright. Snyder said that while he may not agree with everything Wright has said, he believes that "the church in America is stronger today because of [Wright's] leadership.

I Do Not Believe Anyone Is Calling Her Statement Racist, Only It Implicates A "Racial Issue"

To Me Personally I Finding Insulting:

1. If You Are White=Hard Working

2. If You Are White=You Are A True American

3. If You Are White But Under-Educated=You Support Clinton

4. If You Are White And Are Above The Middle In Wages=You Will Not support Her

5. So If You Are White Educated,Work But Not Hard,Upper Middle Class,And You Hold An American Passport Who Do You Support ?

Rangel slams HRC's white support talk

NEW YORK -- Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.), among Hillary Rodham Clinton's top African-American supporters, was none too pleased with Clinton's comments this week to USA Today that she has broader appeal with white voters.

The statement was "the dumbest thing she could have said," Rangel told reporters before a Clinton fundraiser in a midtown hotel ballroom Saturday.

He called her statement "very poorly worded" but acknowledged there may be some truth to it.

"In any campaign, there are groups of people that you know that you have and groups of people that you don't," he said. "And I don't care what it is. White, black, Catholic, Protestant -- pollsters and newspaper reporters, that's all they know, and so they keep asking the same question over and over. I mean, this happens in campaigns."

Still, Rangel said Clinton should leave it to others to make the case that she has more appeal to white voters.

Why the GOP is Losing
by Patrick J. Buchanan - November 3, 2006

Entering the weekend before his midterms, George Bush and his party appear fated to lose the House they have held for a dozen years. The Senate is on a knife's edge.

The latest polls continue to show that by 52 percent to 37 percent Americans wish to see a Democratic takeover. Approval of Congress has never been lower. Americans think the nation is on the wrong track. Support for the war in Iraq has collapsed to a third of the nation.

What went wrong? Certainly, on three traditional Republican issues " strong military, conservative judges and lower taxes " the GOP remains America's Party.

How do we know? Because no Democrat in a close race is calling, Mondale-like, for higher taxes or attacking Bush for elevating judges John Roberts and Sam Alito to the Supreme Court. In the tight Senate races in Tennessee and Virginia, Democratic nominees Harold Ford and Jim Webb are outspokenly pro-defense.

On immigration, where Bush aligns with Kennedy-McCain, his party has abandoned him. The Republican House stands for border security, no amnesty and no new guest-worker program. Nor is this a losing issue. Even Hillary Clinton voted for 700 miles of security fence on the Mexican border.

What, then, are the causes of Republican malaise?

First is the perception the GOP is no longer a virtuous party that seeks to live up to principles and a high standard of public ethics. The adventures of the Abramoff Gang, Mark Foley, Duke Cunningham and his poker-party pals, of pork barrel and bridges to nowhere have demoralized the Republican base and disgusted Middle America. There is a feeling, even on the right, that if this crowd is run out of Dodge, its expulsion will not be unwarranted.

Second, while the macro economy seems to be firing on all eight cylinders " the Dow has risen above 12,000, and the Misery Index of inflation plus unemployment has fallen to the lowest levels in modern times " not all Americans are participating in the prosperity.

Employment in health care has grown by almost 2 million, but some 3 million manufacturing jobs have vanished. There has been a population explosion among billionaires, but the real median wage of a male worker has not risen in decades. The daily closure of factories here, as more and more Chinese goods show up at Wal-Mart, points to inescapable consequences: The price of the GOP's free-trade-uber-alles ideology is the loss of the Reagan Democrats.

"McCain did not flip flop on tax cuts. He always supported tax cuts but wanted cuts in spending to match and since that was not in the original bill he voted against it. He supports keeping the tax cuts now because he intends to make those spending cuts as president."

The Truth And Facts:

Washington Post: GOP Candidates Offers Tax Policies He Once Opposed

McCain Changes Story on Tax Cut Stance

WASHINGTON -- Republican John McCain says he opposed President Bush's tax cuts because they didn't come with spending cuts. That is not what he said at the time.

In a presidential debate on Wednesday, McCain said he voted against the Bush tax cuts because he wanted to rein in spending.

"I disagreed when we had tax cuts without spending restraint," the Arizona senator said.

The explanation fits with his history of railing against wasteful federal spending. But it does not fit with McCain's comments when he opposed the Bush tax cuts in 2001 and 2003.

In 2001, McCain said the tax cuts favored the wealthy at the expense of the middle class. In 2003, he said there should be no tax cuts until the Iraq war costs were known.

His aversion to the Bush tax cuts is just another reason McCain gives heartburn to many in the conservative GOP base. Besides taxes, there is also his more forgiving attitude toward illegal immigration, his effort to limit money in politics and his long-running feuds with leaders of the Christian right.

Electoral College: Barack Obama Leads John McCain, Hillary Clinton Behind

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new survey of the electoral college math by LifeNews.com shows pro-abortion Democratic candidate Barack Obama would likely win the November presidential election against John McCain. However, McCain would appear to defeat Hillary Clinton if she became the Democratic nominee.

Looking at the past two presidential elections and current and recent polling data in states across the country, numerous states easily fit into a Republican or Democratic category no matter which candidate represents the Democratic Party.

Republicans begin with a 183 to 174 electoral advantage among states that will almost certainly go one way or the other. That's due to the strong support the party has in presidential contests in southern and western states.

Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign cash, looks at the 2007 money-raising and finds the following:

In 2007, the 2008 presidential candidates raised $582.5 million and spent $481.2 million.

In the 4th quarter of 2007, individuals in the Army, Navy and Air Force made those branches of the armed services the No. 13, No. 18 and No. 21, contributing industries, respectively. War opponent Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, received the most from donors in the military, collecting at least $212,000 from them. Another war opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, was second with about $94,000.

Soldiers love Ron and Barack, and lobbyists love Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, the No. 1 recipient of lobbyist cash, receiving $823,000 in 2007 from the lobbying industry, which gave about $2.7 million overall.
