Prior to the election, I visited family my hometown in western Wisconsin. The level of Trump support among my old friends was surprising.
They were angry over the lack of opportunity they saw in their lives. The dearth of decent paying jobs or jobs that did not leave you with a broken body by age 50 is scary. The population of non-whites in my hometown is extremely low. Yet most were convinced that a foreigner ( avoiding the term they used) were taking their jobs. They were also on an unspoken level, angry that they did not leave like many of may classmates did years ago for greener pastures. Their support for Trump was mostly fueled by anger and resentment, over both real and imagined reasons for their situations. Trump tapped into that anger. Sadly my old friends are likely once again come out on the short end of the stick under Trump.
