I applaud Obama's quick request that the daughter's situation is off-limits, but large portions of his supporters continue to trumpet the situation, so either they don't respect Obama's wishes enough to abide by them, or Obama is talking out of both sides of his mouth.

726, your statement that McCain did not know about this is, I believe, incorrect. The report is that she disclosed her 17 yr old daughter being pregnant, but McCain decided to pick her as his running mate anyway. Either it was a crazy move, or he hoped it would bring the scumbags out of the woodwork to savage a 17 yr old in public (I mean, one that is not named Mylie Ray) and bring her sympathy. I think it was crazy, personally. We'll see how it plays out.

The sad thing is that the kids matter at all. Spouses, one can argue, are fair game, since they may even end up (trying to) influence policy. But kids should be off-limits, especially minor children. But rabid supporters on either side of the aisle lack the self-control required. Have not heard any trash about Obama's kids because they are thankfully too young to have done much more than fail a spelling test. but I would fully expect this Bristol Palin blow-up to drag Joe Biden's son Hunter into the mix (lobbying rules violations, kick-backs at Amtrak). But at least he's an adult.
