This is what boggles my mind...

Everyone thinks its these bad mortgages that are causing the entire problem. It is not. It's the credit derivatives that are causing the problem.

Read up on credit defualt swaps and you'll understand why the mortgage problem is only very small part of the whole problem.

The bailout will pass... the Repubs are just twisting to find a politically expedient way out of this mess... but there ain't one.

If the bailout passes, they lose and look like fools for holding it up. If it doesn't, then the economy tanks and they lose because they are held responsible for not supporting it. Its a no-win situation for them.

But as President he will do a better job in the investigation of Freddie and Fannie: they have served subpoena.

Highly doubt that considering Rick Davis was paid as a lobbyist up until August for the privilege of having access to McCain.

This bailout bill needs to be debate and gone over thorougly -- not rubber stamped and almost a blank check given to ONE MAN (Paul) for $700 billion of dollar yet Obama seems to be more than okay with it. Why?

Because he understands how perilous this situation actually is. This thing cannot go on for months on end... by that time, things can go really really wrong.

You guys think that this problem is only related to mortgages... it is not. This problem is actually bigger than the entire global economy. You may have heard of the term "credit default swaps". These are the big problem.

If too many things fail or unwind, a domino effect will occur that could crash the entire world economy.

It says that Paulson, with complete authority and autonomy, can direct the $700B in funds however he sees fit.

Here's the kicker:

WITHOUT ANY OVERSIGHT OR THE ABILITY TO BE REVIEWED BY ANY COURT OR ADMINISTRATIVE AGENCY!!!!!!

In other words, he can do as he pleases with this money and not be held accountable.

The bailout has to happen - there is no choice. The ripple effects could shut down the world economy.

But the real thing to watch here is who gets the help. Will homeowners get help? Or will it just be the banks?

If the general public gets nothing out of this, then it should be really clear where we ALL stand compared to the corporations.

I've always known conservatives were chickenshits.

Cheney's the perfect example of how afraid these people really are. Made quite certain his ass wouldn't be in danger, but has the gall to think he can protect the rest of us.

This is actually quite interesting and amusing. It's really the first time that Dems have gotten Rush on the defensive. Twisted his words to suit their own agenda... kinda Republican if you ask me...

My guess is that there is more of this to come!

I guess the real problem is that liberals see giving people the choice to do what they want with their own money is a bad thing.

It is when so called conservative aren't very good at managing their own money.

Here's the problem -

If SS was made available to invest how you wish, you'd know that conservatives would throw their money in the market.

And when the market tanks, and they lose their retirement funds, they'll be the first to go running to the government for help.

Bear Sterns? Lehman? Anyone?

It seems to me that s bigger issue here is that Sarah Palin is married to a Fucking traitor to the United States of America who is encouraging and promoting Alaska to succeed with this bitch being the key-note speaker at many of their meetings.

Isn't it fact that her husband was once a member of the AIP? This is the organization that wants to vote to secede from the USA? Some might call this traitorous - others might call it terrorism.

Nader is like the kid that wants to play "his" game and "his" game only. He won't play in the game that has been set up for over 100 years. No. He wants to play it his way and only he should win.

Nader is no reformist. Nader talks - and that's about it. If he really wanted change, he'd get in the game.

The problem is with these independent voters.

We all know the conservatives will vote McCain no matter what. We all know that libs will vote Obama no matter what.

It's the indy voters that are wishy-washy. We have this sense that indy voters take the time to think about things, carefully evaluate positions, listen to reasoned arguments, etc..

I don't this this is the case. I think that these folks are swayed by popularity. In this contest, I feel these people don't care one way or the other who gets elected. It's just who will scream the loudest, have the best commercials, have the best one-line zinger, and so on.

Had to admit it worked and then Bill pointed out that if he and Biden were in charge there would be no Surge.

There would be no surge because we wouldn't have been in Iraq in the first place.

John Bush keeps talking about winning in Iraq... winning what exactly? Can someone please explain to me what it is we are going to win in Iraq?

So 5% are going to offset the loss, pay for a SS bailout, provide health care to the babyboom generation on down, and cover 30M undocumented workers who pay nothing, provide better teachers and education and balance the Budget?

So then you admit that the last 8 years of LOWERING TAXES ACROSS THE BOARD is what brought us to this right?

And what is John Bush's plan by the way... ?

Republicans are now grasping at straws. Night is day, black is white, good is bad, up is down.

Romney's Big Brother comment and Guiliani's Al-Queda comments are proof positive that these conservatives have now resorted to downright lying and believing in fantasy.

It's a brilliant plan. The only question is, will it work.

How did they fare during Clinton's reign? What was the economic trend for the middle class under his reign?
