Came into the thread to post exactly this. People talking about how "oh, anyone can do it!" or "man, bike riding isn't really a sport" have obviously never ridden a bike since they were about 10 years old. The amount of effort it takes to bike 50-75 miles in one day is incredible, let alone the amount of effort it takes to ride over 100 miles almost every single day for three weeks straight over mountainous terrain.
I don't idolize Armstrong. I think it's pretty much accepted that he, along with many other professional cyclists, regularly participated in blood doping or steroid use or whatever else. The difference is, he's been able to hide it. Doping is so widespread at the upper end of cycling competition that it's foolish to assume that people DON'T do it.
