I read in our local paper that one of the Councilmen from Portsmouth proposed removing a Confederate monument from a street corner in the city. His reasoning was "And I think if we are going to move forward and move forward as a city that we need to remove those types of symbols out of our city so that we can show respect for humanity and one another. ... So I would ask this council that we would seriously consider looking at removing that vestige of racism that is represented in that Confederate monument."
I also read there is a call to rename Jefferson Davis Hwy in Northern Virginia.
Looks like its more than just the Confederate Battle Flag.
