inthesetimes.com BY REFAAT ALAREER If I must die, you must live to tell my story to sell my things to buy a piece of cloth and some strings, (make it white with a long tail) so that a child, somewhere in Gaza while looking heaven in the eye awaiting his dad who left in a blaze" and bid no one farewell not even to his flesh not even to himself" sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above and thinks for a moment an angel is there bringing back love If I must die let it bring hope let it be a tale

TEL AVIV " An NBC News investigation into seven deadly airstrikes has found Palestinians were killed in areas of southern Gaza that the Israeli military had explicitly designated as safe zones. The attacks took place from January to April, as Israel's military bombarded Rafah from the air and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government signaled its intent to launch a full-scale ground invasion on Gaza's southernmost city, which has now swelled to more than 1 million people.

The far-right cable network One America News retracted a story and apologized Monday after it falsely claimed former President Donald Trump's ex lawyer Michael Cohen was the one who had an affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels and secretly used it to "extort" the Trump Organization.

It may be spring, but it's not too soon to look ahead to summer weather, especially when El Nio " a player in last year's especially brutal summer " is rapidly weakening and will all but vanish by the time the season kicks into gear. The influence of El Nio or La Nia on US weather isn't as clear-cut in the summer as it is in the winter, especially during a transition between the two phases, said Michelle L'Heureux, a climate scientist with the Climate Prediction Center. In an affidavit Bartlesville Police Officer Reed Blackard said he was doing routine patrol on April 14 around 4 p.m. and saw Armatige's vehicle driving fast and changing through lanes of both directions to pass other vehicles. Blackard tried to pull Armatige over but she ran a stop sign and began a short pursuit. The affidavit says Armitage pulled over and said her granddaughter had a bloody nose and it was an emergency.

Lawyers for Hunter Biden plan to sue Fox News "imminently," according to a letter sent to the network and obtained by NBC News. The letter, dated April 23, puts the Fox News Channel and Fox News Digital on notice for litigation claims arising from the network's alleged "conspiracy and subsequent actions to defame Mr. Biden and paint him in a false light, the unlicensed commercial exploitation of his image, name, and likeness, and the unlawful publication of hacked intimate images of him."

At issue is a clash between federal and state law about how pregnant women must be treated in the emergency room. Specifically, whether a state may ban medical termination of a pregnancy if the woman's health, but not her life, is in grave danger. The case centers on a law enacted in 1986 to stop hospitals from turning away uninsured patients or dumping them on other hospitals. It's known as the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, or EMTALA. The law says that as a condition for receiving Medicare funds, hospital emergency departments must stabilize a patient whose life or health is at risk. If the hospital can't do that, it must provide safe transport to a facility that can. But Idaho and a few other states have now enacted laws that ban emergency abortions unless the mother's life, but not her health, is at risk. Read more

Donald Trump continues to hold an advantage over President Joe Biden as the campaign " and the former president's criminal trial " move forward, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. And in the coming rematch, opinions about the first term of each man vying for a second four years in the White House now appear to work in Trump's favor, with most Americans saying that, looking back, Trump's term as president was a success, while a broad majority says Biden's has so far been a failure. Trump's support in the poll among registered voters holds steady at 49% in a head-to-head matchup against Biden, the same as in CNN's last national poll on the race in January, while Biden's stands at 43%, not significantly different from January's 45%.

In an interview with All Things Considered, the independent lawmaker said he felt the need to respond because Netanyahu, in his mind, has tried "to deflect attention from that horrendous reality [of the Israel-Hamas war] to talk about antisemitism, to deflect away from what he is doing," in Gaza. "In my view, and I think the view of most Americans now, Israel's response has been grossly disproportionate," Sanders told NPR's Scott Detrow. "Gaza has 2.2 million people, mostly very poor Palestinians. And over the last six months, 33,000 people have been killed, 77,000 have been wounded, two thirds of whom are women and children."

In a little-noticed court filing earlier this month, federal prosecutors described Steve Bannon as a "co-conspirator" in a massive criminal fraud and racketeering case against a flamboyant, far-right Chinese fugitive, compounding the legal headaches of the former Donald Trump adviser. FBI agents in March 2023 arrested Guo Wengui, a self-styled anti-Chinese government activist Bannon once advised, charging him and two associates with using a series of fraudulent investment opportunities to defraud thousands of Guo's supporters in the Chinese diaspora of more than $1 billion.
