Judge Aileen Cannon has indefinitely postponed former President Donald Trump's classified documents trial in Florida, citing significant issues around classified evidence that would need to be worked out before the federal criminal case goes to a jury. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been dropped by his accountant and cannot find another to take up the management of his beleaguered finances, court records show. Giuliani's lawyers filed Tuesday a response in his New York City federal bankruptcy case that details financial woes that include his unpopularity among accountants and his sole sources of income: social security, a radio show and a podcast. "Unfortunately, [Giuliani] originally had an accountant who was helping, however, he had a change of heart and indicated that he no longer wished to help prepare the monthly operating reports," the filing states.

The problem, in short, is that the MAGA activists in charge are eating each other alive. States in which old-guard "establishment" Republicans were run off"seemingly paving the way for unified efforts on behalf of Trump"are instead beset by resignations, lawsuits, and financial crises. Conflicts are ongoing in Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, and Georgia as well as Michigan, and are tearing apart smaller chapters at even more local levels. It's a perplexing state of affairs given that these Republicans are so united behind their presumptive nominee. But as I learned in Grand Rapids, Donald Trump's wishes are sometimes beside the point to the people who followed him into the party. Their loyalties are to causes bigger"and stranger"than electing one person to the presidency. Read more

Leaders of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have told faculty to discontinue the practice of requiring mandatory diversity, equity and inclusion statements in faculty hiring. "On Saturday, an MIT spokesperson confirmed in an email to me that requests for a statement on diversity will no longer be part of applications for any faculty positions at MIT,' adding that the decision was made by embattled MIT President Sally Kornbluth with the support of the Provost, Chancellor, and all six academic deans,'" John Sailer reported for Unherd. "In a statement provided to me via email, president Kornbluth notes: We can build an inclusive environment in many ways, but compelled statements impinge on freedom of expression, and they don't work."

Chicago's Cinco de Mayo parade was canceled Sunday after gang violence erupted near the route, according to police. CPD's 10th District, elected officials, and parade organizers agreed to the cancellation out of an "abundance of caution" to protect those who were planning on attending, including families and children. Police said there have been multiple arrests made, including gun arrests. The parade was scheduled to kick off at noon and stretch from Cermak from Damen to Wood. Parade-goers were advised to return home as police continued to clear the parade route.

President Joe Biden has been dogged for months by pro-Palestinian protesters calling him "Genocide Joe" " but some of the groups behind the demonstrations receive financial backing from philanthropists pushing hard for his reelection. The donors include some of the biggest names in Democratic circles: Gates, Soros, Rockefeller and Pritzker, according to a POLITICO analysis. Two of the main organizers behind protests at Columbia University and on other campuses are Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow. Both are supported by the Tides Foundation, which is seeded by Democratic megadonor George Soros as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and it in turn supports numerous small nonprofits that work for social change. (Gates did not return a request for comment, and Soros declined to comment.) Read more

ABC News host Jonathan Karl called out Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) after he suggested Jan. 6 rioters "just wandered into the Capitol." During a Sunday interview on ABC's This Week, Karl confronted Cotton with a statement he made following the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. It's past time for the president to accept the results of the election, quit misleading the American people, and repudiate mob violence," Cotton said at the time. "More than three years later, Trump has still not accepted the results," Karl noted. "He is still misleading the American people." Cotton falsely claimed Trump had accepted the election results "that very day." "He still hasn't accepted the results of the election," Karl pointed out. "He's also calling the people that attacked the Capitol hostages. And he's suggesting that he would, may pardon all of them. I mean, I assume you don't agree with that." "He said that he would consider pardons, and some of them probably..." Cotton said. Read more

The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is negotiating a new contract with the public schools system and is understood to be calling for an extra $50 billion to pay for wage hikes as well as other demands such as fully paid abortions for its members, new migrant services and facilities and a host of LGBT-related requirements and training in schools. To put the figure into context, the total base tax receipts for the state of Illinois last year were $50.7 billion. The incredible demands are being made despite its members delivering underwhelming results for its students, with only 21 percent of the city's eighth graders being proficient readers, according to the last Nation's Report Card, which provides national results about students' performance.
