A police officer who pulls over speeding black motorists"and only black motorists"isn't protecting "law and order." He's engaging in invidious discrimination. So too the university administrators who suddenly discover they are free speech absolutists only when student protesters call for the death of their Jewish classmates. In January, a junior at Columbia University, Khymani James, told a disciplinary committee at the school that Zionists "don't deserve to live." "Be grateful that I'm just not going out and murdering Zionists," he instructed them. Then, James headed back to campus, scot-free

"The recent coverage of college campuses reminded me of an important life lesson. I don't know about you, but the coverage started frustrating and angering me. So, I've been trying to abstain from the sensationalist headlines and rage porn saturating my newsfeed. Did you know that there are stories that don't involve pepper bullets, riots, antisemitism, Islamophobia, mass arrests, and violence? In fact, several colleges don't involve *any* police action whatsoever. Take a moment and read what's happening at Brown, Middlebury, and UVM. Rather than allow tensions to fester and escalate, some college administrations agreed to"gasp"meet with students and hear them out. Some colleges have ongoing discussions and negotiations, while others have reached agreements and ended the encampments." Read more

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. " The audience of about 1,500 people waved small American flags and chanted "USA! USA! USA!" as television cameras began filming last Friday inside a Regent University ballroom. Many in the crowd wore red "Make America Great Again" hats. Some carried Bibles. Over the next three hours, the audience heard the same overarching message that "FlashPoint" broadcasts three times a week on the Victory Channel television network and various streaming platforms: The world has entered its final years. Jesus will soon return. But Christians are not meant to wait idly while evil runs rampant; they are called to occupy positions of power and influence in society. And in the short term, that means putting Donald Trump back in the White House. "This is the only news show where you hear what Jesus thinks," said another attendee, a mother of three school-aged children who'd driven four hours from central North Carolina for the taping. When Pat Tillman was killed in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004, the news stunned his fellow Americans. He was one of the most famous soldiers since Elvis Presley and perhaps the most famous American killed in combat since legendary war correspondent Ernie Pyle in World War II. For the past two decades, although many sought to relegate the saga to history and move on, Mary "Dannie" Tillman has led a fight for a complete account of what happened to her son, how the commanders made the decisions that she says led to his death, why the truth was manipulated and why those responsible were never held fully accountable for their actions. US President Joe Biden has called Japan and India "xenophobic", grouping them together with Russia and China as countries that "don't want immigrants". His criticism of Japan comes just weeks after he called the US-Japan alliance "unbreakable" during a state visit from Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. India is also a key US partner, despite US concerns about human rights and religious freedoms there. The White House says that Mr Biden meant no offence to either country.

Settler violence and Israeli military raids in the occupied West Bank have surged since October 7. Residents have been displaced, homes have been attacked and Palestinians have been killed and injured. More than a dozen countries, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Australia have condemned the violence, and some have announced visa restrictions on anyone found to have taken part in the attacks. But these restrictions miss a big loophole: dual nationals. It is estimated that of the 700,000 settlers who live in occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank, at least 60,000 are also American citizens. People & Power investigates the role US citizens play in Israel's settlement and military activities in the occupied Palestinian territory.
