A vote to impeach President Donald Trump will happen on the House of Representatives floor on Wednesday, a Democrat has vowed. Rep. Al Green of Texas in a House speech Tuesday said he would bring articles of impeachment against Trump and force a vote the following day, after three prominent Democrats asked to meet with him to discuss the matter. "I will tell them that impeachment is not about Democrats, that it's not about Republicans. I will tell them that it is about democracy," Green said of the Democrats he plans to meet with in his office. "It is about government of the people, by the people, for the people. I will tell them it is about the republic, it is about what (Benjamin) Franklin said, ‘We have a republic if we can keep it.' "I refuse to sit on the sidelines while the world is considering one of the greatest issues of our time." The impeachment vote will likely only be procedural. read more

WASHINGTON -- Bishop Christopher Coyne of Burlington, Chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Communications, is urging the retention of an open internet in the wake of a Federal Communications Commission proposal unveiled last week that would repeal protections intended to keep the internet open and fair. The concept of an open internet has long been called "net neutrality," in which internet service providers neither favor nor discriminate against internet users or websites. Bishop Coyne continues to voice strong support for net neutrality protections in a statement in response to last week's proposed FCC action. read more

A church in upmarket Malibu has decided to stop providing free meals for those in need after claiming they were told by officials they were attracting too many homeless people. But it said it was going to stop after being told the meal service was luring too many homeless people. Dawn Randall, a member of the church, said it recently received an email from city officials. "Very succinctly, they claimed we are increasing homelessness," she told CBS. read more

The Pakistani government has called on the army to restore order in Islamabad and disperse anti-blasphemy protesters who have been demonstrating in the capital for the past fortnight. The protests, which spread on Saturday to several other cities in Pakistan, have left about 200 injured, including dozens of police officers. Local media reported that about 150 protesters in Islamabad had been arrested by police, who used water cannon, rubber bullets and tear gas. Seemingly emboldened by the failure of the government to clear the protests, which have nearly paralysed the capital, Khadim Hussain Rizvi -- the firebrand cleric who leads the Tehreek-e Labbaik Pakistan party -- has called for protesters to bring the whole country to a halt. read more

"We can't say that [Donald] Trump was recruited in 1987. But what we can say with absolute certainty is there was a very determined effort by the Soviets to bring him over, and that moreover, his personality was the kind of thing they were looking for. They were looking for narcissists. They were looking for people who were kind of -- dare I say it -- corruptible, interested in money, people who were not necessarily faithful in their marriages and also sort of opportunists who were not very strong analysts or principle people. And if you work your way down the list through these sort of -- the KGB's personality questionnaire, Donald Trump ticks every single box." -- Luke Harding, author of Collusion: Secret Meetings, Dirty Money, and How Russia Helped Donald Trump Win read more
