The father of three daughters who have been abused by Larry Nassar tried to attack the former doctor in Eaton County court Friday before he was tackled and arrested by security. Randall Margraves said he was a "distraught father" and cursed at Nassar, but Judge Janice Cunningham told him that was not allowed in court. "I would ask you, as part of the sentencing, to grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon," he asked. "Would you give me one minute?"

Growing concerns about a possible nuclear war and other global threats have pushed forward the symbolic Doomsday Clock by 30 seconds - to just two minutes before midnight. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS) said it had acted because the world was becoming "more dangerous". The clock, created by the journal in 1947, is a metaphor for how close mankind is to destroying the Earth. It is now the closest to the apocalypse it has been since 1953. That was the year when the US and the Soviet Union tested hydrogen bombs.

Some pageant contestants hit a hump in the road this week. That is, a camel beauty contest in Saudi Arabia disqualified a dozen camels for receiving Botox injections to make them more attractive. I took it 25 years ago for my girlfriend's Master's thesis. It's not rocket science.

The Santa Fe Hospital in Temple, TX did the same thing.

Santa Fe RR Hospital

The Santa Fe Railroad Hospital was unique because it was one of very few hospitals built by Texas railroads specifically for their employee's benefit. Railroad work was dangerous and injuries frequent. Medical care for railroad workers, scattered across the state, was scarce and rudimentary. The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway decided it would be better for their employees and the railroad's operations if injured workers could be brought to a then state-of-the-art hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The Santa Fe Hospital opened in June 1891 on South Twenty-Fifth Street in Temple. The hospital was operated by the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Hospital Association, formed by Galveston businessmen who owned the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway. The Santa Fe was among the first railroads to adopt a system-wide prepaid hospitalization and pension plan. Before 1891 railway workers were treated at St. Mary's Hospital in Galveston, but rail officials established a hospital in Temple because of its central location in the railway system.
