Trump is the type of leader that sees a parade, jumps in front of it and proclaims himself it's leader. As evidenced by his televised "performance" recently, and numerous media accounts, he holds no firm policy positions.
Trump is completely out of his league. He knows nothing about the vast majority of issues that, as president, he must deal with every day. And, instead of spending the intellectual capital to get up to speed on those issues and forming his own opinions, he relies on others to propose ideas/solutions which he can shoot down or endorse at his whim. And, irrespective of the soundness/appropriateness of the solution, he feels like he can sell it to the American people. After all, he is the PRESIDENT.
This management style does have its advantages: it allows all ideas to surface. The problem though is that it ensures chaos if not done in a controlled manner. In Trump's white house, it doesn't appear to be done in a controlled manner.
Trump's authoritarian style should have been predicted. As the CEO of a successful, private, family run business that he built, he's accustomed to a "my way or the highway" management style. If ever the US decides to nominate another CEO, let's hope that (s)he is from a Fortune 50, consumer products company that had to answer to a large and independent board of directors.
