To listen to Ted Cruz discuss The Simpsons at this week's Conservative Political Action Conference is to witness a man who does not deserve The Simpsons. In what may well be the least accurate analogy of all time, Cruz said: "I think the Democrats are the party of Lisa Simpson and the Republicans are, happily, the party of Homer and Bart and Maggie and Marge." Where to start? First, Maggie is a baby who communicates exclusively in non-verbal cues, so assigning any political affiliation to her seems presumptuous. Second, the episode The Way We Was contains a flashback of Marge burning her bra during a feminist rally at school, which suggests a core of progressive liberalism. Bart, as has been pointed out elsewhere, demonstrates all the traits of libertarianism. Homer might be Republican, but then again Homer is a man so stupid that he once caused a nuclear meltdown in a van that contained no nuclear material whatsoever. And, yes, Lisa is a Democrat. Specifically, she's a Democrat who literally becomes president in order to fix the mess left by Donald Trump. read more

With the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High shooting still looming large, its students in the Capitol to lobby for gun controls, the Florida House overwhelmingly passed a measure Wednesday its sponsor said aimed at bringing "light" to the schools. The bill (HB 839) would require all public schools to post the state motto, "In God We Trust," in a "conspicuous place She spoke directly of the school shooting, and said it's no secret that the state has "gun issues" that must be addressed. "But the real thing that needs to be addressed are issues of the heart," Daniels said.

From his CPAC speech (emphasis mine)... We have got to change our way. Merit system. I want merit system. You know what is happening? All these companies are coming into our country, they're all coming into our country, and when they come in, we need people that are going to work. I'm telling you, we need workers now. I don't want people that are going to come in and be accepting all of the gifts of our country for the next 50 years and contribute nothing. I don't want that. You don't want that. I want people that are going to help and people that are going to go to work for Chrysler, who is now moving from Mexico into Michigan. And so many others. And Apple, by the way. And Foxconn in Wisconsin. They're going to need 25,000 workers. I want people that can come in and get to work and work hard; even if it means a learning period, that is fine. But I want people that are going to come in and work.

I mean, it takes some serious effort to find a spot in our Three Million Square Mile land area, where you will not see endless lines of seated humans trundling meaninglessly back and forth in these giant and stupendously inefficient machines.

It's not so much "Fake News", but they latch on to the story they think is there while ignoring the story that actually exists. It's a form of hubris. read more
