Some don't want development bringing high-rises to their neighborhoods, while others see that as the best way to bring in housing, adding it will help the environment as well. Advocates on either side call each other "dumb and venal" and "masters of hypocritical progressivisim" -- both sides claim the other is entitled and doesn't really understand the needs of the poor -- but there's no clear consensus about what should be done. read more

The Republican National Committee (RNC) went after Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) this week over his television appearances in the year since President Trump took office, accusing him of "preening for the cameras."

The RNC released research showing Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, has conducted 227 television interviews since Trump took office, with the most occurring on MSNBC and CNN. He appeared twice on Fox News in the interviews tracked by the RNC.

"Rep. Adam Schiff has used the House's Russia investigation as his big break, becoming a near constant presence on cable TV to raise his profile," the RNC asserted in a statement.

"From January 23, 2017 until February 25, 2018, Rep. Schiff, the Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, participated in a whopping 227 television interviews, clocking a cumulative total of 26 hours, 4 minutes, and 10 seconds on television." read more

Since the tax law's passage in December, Republicans have watched it become more popular, the economic news grow more positive, and their own political standing improve. Now comes a much bigger challenge: Can the party's tax cuts actually move votes? A special House election in Pennsylvania next month will be the best political test yet of the tax law, a potential vindication of – or warning to – Republicans who hope that its passage will fundamentally alter a political environment that recently appeared to threaten their House majority.

Already, the race between Republican Rick Saccone and Democrat Conor Lamb has featured clashes over the tax legislation, with the candidates sparring over it at a debate and one GOP super PAC putting its message front-and-center in TV ads. Now, both parties will watch the contest's final three weeks closely for concrete signs of how the Republicans' signature legislative achievement is shaping the broader midterms landscape. read more
