Left-leaning comedian Ellen DeGeneres must be part of a "deep state" conspiracy, President Donald Trump's son Eric said on Twitter Tuesday night, after apparently misunderstanding how social media works. The heir to the Trump real estate fortune made the assertion by tweeting a screenshot of which accounts the company's algorithm suggested he follow, including the Twitter streams of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Ellen DeGeneres. "Shocking," Trump tweeted. "Once again, here are the @Twitter 'suggestions' of who I should follow. #DeepState." ... Twitter makes its suggestions based on a diverse range of criteria, all of which have to do with user habits. read more

Prices for a cancer drug called lomustine have skyrocketed nearly 1,400 percent since 2013, putting a potentially life-saving treatment out of reach for patients suffering from brain tumors and Hodgkin's lymphoma. Though the 40-year-old medication is no longer protected by patents, no generic version is available. According to the Wall Street Journal, lomustine was sold by Bristol-Myers Squib for years under the brand name CeeNU at a price of about $50 a capsule for the highest dose. The drugmaker sold lomustine in 2013 to a little-known Miami startup called NextSource, which proceeded to hike lomustine's price nine times since. It now charges about $768 per pill for the medication. read more

Sucking up to Donald Trump is tricky business. On Wednesday Wells Fargo announced that it was raising its minimum wage thanks to the passage of the Republican tax bill: "Wells Fargo to Raise Minimum Hourly Pay Rate to $15, Target $400 Million in 2018 Philanthropic Contributions, Including Expanded Support for Small Businesses and Homeownership." That press release is a little vague. Was Wells really doing all this because of the tax bill? A pair of LA Times reporters called the press office to find out: Asked by the Times to clarify the connection Wednesday, Wells Fargo spokesman Peter Gilchrist said there was none ... Asked directly to confirm that the pay raises were not a result of the tax bill, Gilchrist said, "That is correct." read more

AT&T promised $1,000 in bonuses because of the GOP tax plan on Wednesday. But the union representing AT&T workers bargained for that bonus earlier this month. On Wednesday, AT&T's CEO announced $1,000 bonuses for all AT&T employees. AT&T said the bonuses were the result of corporate tax cuts passed in Congress this week. But the big payout was to President Donald Trump's ego. AT&T was already in talks with its union to give holiday bonuses, that union told The Daily Beast. The telecom's GOP-friendly press release makes it the latest company to praise Trump's legislative agenda when they need a big favor from the White House. read more

The anti-fascism movement, "antifa," which is more of a protesting tactic than a formal group, has been the subject of blame in a growing number of bizarre -- and false -- conspiracy theories floated by right-wing pundits in recent months. Take the mass shooting in Las Vegas that claimed scores of lives: Antifa was not involved, despite a theory otherwise. Then, antifa was blamed for a fake civil war plot. It never happened because such a thing was never planned. Antifa was also blamed for a mass shooting in a Texas church. Again, the shooting had nothing to do with anti-fascism, or with left-wing protesters in general. read more
