Toronto police have now recovered the remains of six people and identified one of them in an investigation into what they have described as the work of a serial killer. Bruce McArthur, 66, has been charged with five counts of first-degree murder in the disappearances of Andrew Kinsman, Selim Esen, Majeed Kayhan, Soroush Mahmudi and Dean Lisowick. Speaking Thursday at a home on Mallory Cres., where McArthur mowed the owner's lawn in exchange for storing landscaping equipment in the garage, Det.-Sgt. Hank Idsinga said Kinsman's remains are among those recovered. He said police now have DNA profiles of two people, one of which was Kinsman's, but couldn't say who the other belonged to. Idsinga said police have not yet concluded what was Kinsman's exact cause of death.

President Trump and Devin Nunes have been muddying the waters of the Russia investigation, so let's try to clarify those waters. Here are a dozen things we know. 1. Russia interfered in the U.S. election. 2. Trump has longstanding business interests in Russia. 3. Trump has consistently displayed a soft spot for Putin. 4. Trump picked people with ties to Russia. 5. Russia confided in the Trump campaign. 6. Trump aides secretly met with Russians. 7. A Trump ally secretly communicated with a Russian mouthpiece. 8. ... more secret contacts. WikiLeaks, presumably representing Russian interests, engaged in secret correspondence with Donald Trump Jr. 9. Kushner met a Putin ally. 10. Trump aides falsely denied contacts. 11. Russia is still at it. Russian bots are joining Trump supporters in tweeting hashtags like #MAGA and #FullOfSchiff. These same Russian bots are promoting Fox News links that disparage the Russia investigation. 12. This is not normal! read more

Representative Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader, took the House floor at 10:04 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday, intent on speaking about the young undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers.

Eight hours and seven minutes later, she quit talking. Her marathon monologue -- highly unusual for the House, which has no equivalent to the Senate filibuster -- appears to have set the record for the longest continuous speech in the chamber, dating to at least 1909, according to the House historian.

Ms. Pelosi's speech came as Republicans were scrambling to pass legislation to keep the government open.

Ms. Pelosi has said she will not vote for the measure. She was protesting its lack of protection for the Dreamers, young immigrants who were brought to the United States illegally as children and have been shielded from deportation by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, an Obama-era initiative that President Trump has suspended. read more

There was no evidence of an attack that led to the on-duty death in November of a U.S. Border Patrol agent, the FBI said on Wednesday in the case that prompted President Donald Trump to renew calls for a border wall with Mexico.

"To date none of the more than 650 interviews completed, locations searched, or evidence collected and analyzed have produced evidence that would support the existence of a scuffle, altercation, or attack," the Federal Bureau of Investigation El Paso Field Office said in a statement.

The National Border Patrol Council, a union representing border patrol agents, said in November that it believes Martinez was killed by rocks in an ambush.

Union officials were not immediately available for comment on Wednesday. read more

The New York Post reported on Monday that PepsiCo is working on a new "lady-friendly" version of Doritos. The company's market research has apparently revealed that women prefer not to crunch loudly and lick Dorito dust off their fingers in public, and they generally decline to upend the near-empty bag of chips and dump the flavor crumbs into their mouths. They also like to be able to carry their snacks in their purses. In response, PepsiCo is developing a snack chip that will be less crunchy and messy to eat. read more
