Spacelab, a restaurant in southern China's Shenzhen, uses spiral slides to serve food to its patrons. The eatery said that it takes only 17 seconds to deliver a meal.

Nice thing... no bloody waiters. And no bloody manager. I have had it up to here with such people. Just order by computer.

Bad thing... you feel kind of stoopid with other people's food traveling over your head.

And then when your food arrives, you have to chase your burger like a mutt chases cars. Not cool.

Also, one day, your food will fly off the rails and hit someone. That's not cool either.

The Chinese love gimmicks and giant-eyed mascots. I can see this being popular with teens and twenty-somethings.

The older crowd still likes their traditional restaurants where they can chain smoke between courses of eel and octopus at a lazy Susan table.

I'd go once for the experience. It's pleasurable to tip a person who obviously cares. Those automation sliding noises are off-putting, imo.

Why can't both be used?
