A passenger aircraft ... an ATR-42... skidded off the runway while landing at Gilgit airport on Saturday. All passengers remained safe in the incident. The flight was carrying 48 passengers, from Islamabad to Gilgit. The aircraft was pictured resting on its right side after coming to a halt in a grassy area next to the tarmac.

Can't help thinking "What Would DOTARD Have Done" if he had been the pilot.

Dotard would never be able to qualify as a pilot. There is a lot of reading, studying and demonstrating proficiency. Those enterprises are like Kryptonite for the Orange Super sloth.

I totally agree with you. But I am asking "what if".

What if in "Spock with a beard" evil parallel universe the only thing you needed to be a pilot was be a DOTARD?

I am trying to imagine but I can't.

I thought of this classic from The Far Side:

Good Farside, AU.

The old Air Traffic Control adage. (Spoken more often in mountainous terrains.) 'Careful Cap'n. There's rocks in those clouds'.

The nice thing about Gilgit airport and others like it, is that it's small and it's not international... you don't have jumbo class aircraft landing.

You can see in the video the runway wasn't even visible until the last minute.

Unlike Khatmandu, Nepal, which IS international and even more dangerous than some place like Gilgit. You have to have a special qualification to fly land at Kathmandu... and you still have a high accident rate.

Mountain airports can be dangerous.....these Karakoram/Himalayan mountains are no joke.

2016 wasn't that long ago when another ATR-42 aircraft slammed into a mountain. The only thing nice about that crash was it took Pakistan's most famous TV evangelist away to Allah.

If you go "Allah this, Allah that" then perhaps Allah might say "You made your point, you're coming upstairs!"

We thought he'd never shut up.
