The Department of Justice confirmed that it has concluded its investigation into hush money payments to an alleged mistress of President Trump's, in a court filing unsealed Thursday that revealed there was an obstruction of justice aspect to the probe.

"The Government has effectively concluded its investigations of (1) who, besides Michael Cohen, was involved in and may be criminally liable for the two campaign finance violations to which Cohen pled guilty," a footnote in the filing said, referring to the former Trump fixer who plead guilty to campaign finance violations associated with the payments.

The footnote also indicated the effective conclusion of "whether certain individuals [redacted] made false statements, gave false testimony or otherwise obstructed justice in connection with this investigation [redacted]."

An unnamed FBI special agent wrote in the affidavit that discussions about keeping Daniels from speaking out jump-started after the Oct. 7, 2016, publication of the infamous 2005 Access Hollywood tape, in which Trump bragged about his ability to "grab [women] by the -----" and get away with it because he's a star. The search warrant application indicates that Cohen "exchanged a series of calls, text messages, and emails" with Daniels' then-attorney, as well as David ------ and Dylan Howard of American Media Inc. (which publishes the National Enquirer), Donald Trump and Hope Hicks.

Looks like a conspiracy to me, but what the hell do I know? I know that William Barr must feel that the evidence doesn't rise to the level where charges are warranted against those who apparently participated in a cover up to keep the electorate in the dark as it regarded the truth of Trump's extramarital dalliance with Stormy Daniels.

Apparently this is called justice in Trump's and Barr's America.

As it relates to obstruction, note that the footnote says "The Government has effectively concluded its investigations of ...2) whether certain individuals [REDACTED] made false statements, gave false testimony or otherwise obstructed justice in connection with this investigation [REDACTED]."

Since no further indictments were made prior to the close of this investigation and the Government, by its own admission, is now only seeking redactions for personal privacy or "people around Cohen from which the public might infer criminal complicity" but have none, while leaving unredacted facts relating to individuals involving "facts that have been publicly confirmed" (i.e. Trump), this ex parte report is only confirming that the investigation is done, there will be no more indictments for campaign finance fraud or obstruction of justice related thereto and the materials may be released with minimal redactions.

You and TPM are showing a basic misunderstanding how the US Attorneys offices work: Barr may be the AG but each USA is relatively autonomous, especially where investigations come in, and serve to report back to the AG their findings. Barr's (or Trump's) recourse, if he doesn't like those findings, is to fire the USA.

What you are reading is the conclusion of the AUSAs for the SDNY under Geoff Berman, who is considered to be one of the most apolitical USA's that SDNY has ever had, which is why the Dems are now putting all their chips in his basket on the remaining investigations now that Mueller's investigation was such a disappointment for them.

In January, one month after Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison, prosecutors requested interviews with executives at the company, CNN reported. But prosecutors never followed up on their initial request, people familiar with the matter said, and the interviews never took place. [William Barr took over the AG position on 2/14]

Meanwhile, there has been no contact between the Manhattan US Attorney's office and officials at the Trump Organization in more than five months, one person familiar with the matter said.

What you are reading is the conclusion of the AUSAs for the SDNY under Geoff Berman, who is considered to be one of the most apolitical USA's that SDNY has ever had....

Who is RECUSED from this case! Do you think people are stupid or just that your shiite doesn't stink? Just how quickly do you think the White House will deny the House Judiciary committee from getting the testimony of the investigators and lawyers who worked on this investigation? We've seen this movie before and it continues to be obstruction of justice in plain sight.

Seriously ROC, are you trying to insinuate that you have even one scintilla of doubt that Trump was involved in a chargeable conspiracy of campaign finance violations along with obstructing justice? Knowing the totality of pure dung that is and surrounds Donald Trump how can any person claim that there aren't copious amounts of evidence already and likely much more that was never obtained because the investigators were incredibly called off from following up the leads they had already uncovered before Barr became AG?

If the halt of investigating was because of the DOJ's memo that Trump cannot be charged while being POTUS that still begs the question as to why the other seeming conspirators are not being held accountable for what the FBI already uncovered of their complicity in these affairs. And it certainly doesn't answer the question of why the FBI never followed up the leads and evidence now made public today.

Calm down Tony, I never said that Trump is in the clear, just that the investigation is over and no more indictments are getting handed down against his Campaign for these payments. If Trump is chargeable that can be done after he leaves office, similar to Clinton's disbarment proceedings in 2000.

I also have been abundantly clear that, at the very least, an impeachment inquiry should immediately commence against Trump for the obstruction laid out in the Mueller Report.

Just because Berman is recused doesn't mean that the structure of the USA's office changes, it still runs with his stamp on it.

You need to step away from the conspiracy rags and take a deep breath.

- Calm down Tony

I had a dog like Tony once, really high strung, had to give him away.

Tony, do you pee on everything and hide during fireworks?
