Top Democrats are circulating a poll showing that one of the House's most progressive members -- Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez -- has become a definitional face for the party with a crucial group of swing voters.

To me, this is the reason why Republicans obsess on bringing Rep Ocasio-Cortez to the forefront at every opportunity, not that she doesn't give them a lot of help in doing so...

Funny, a couple three days ago, it was said that the Republicans were not obsessing on Rep Ocasio-Cortez.

Now it seems that the Republicans' obsession with Rep Ocasio-Cortez is a good thing.

Unsurprising. :)

Go ahead and blame the GOP for Crazy Cortez's relentless self-promotion. Doesn't matter. She's made herself the face of the Democrat party.

Cheers!

Who said we were obsessing?

Look if she wants to drive the Democrats off the cliff; here is my Shell card.

Why don't you go over to the other thread where PinchALoaf says AOC is what the country needs.....

@#4 ... Go ahead and blame the GOP for Crazy Cortez's relentless self-promotion ...

I'm not blaming the GOP for Rep Ocasio-Cortez's self-promotion (imo, more like speaking her views than self-promotion).

Indeed, I wasn't blaming the GOP for anything. That's your straw-man, not mine.

In my comment above, I was just noting the hypocrisy regarding some comments about Rep Ocasio-Cortez. How the comments went from denial that the GOP was doing anything (it's the media, dammit), to it is good that the GOP is doing something (sunshine is good).

I'd prefer Tulsi Gabbard be the face AND the brains of the Democratic Party. Hell, I might even rejoin after a quarter of a century.

how can you quantify the actual impact of what any of these people say, when it's all said in the context of Citizen's United and lobbyists. everyone has multiple agendas and the unwashed masses are just along for the ride

I do hope that AOC does define the dem party in those swing states as we know how the vast majority of dem voters want to go far left to socialism. Good for her and I hope she keeps up the good work.

@#5 ... Who said we were obsessing? ...

I was the one who said it, and I was greeted with a bunch of "the GOP is not obsessing, it is the media."

Which is what I alluded to in #3.

Do try to keep up.

Representing the Dems...AOC
Representing the Pubs...Donald Trump

If you can't tell who the more horrible person is of the two, then there is no hope for America.

Republicans and corporate Democrats are going to be kicked to the curb come 2020. The scum is seeing it's last days.

Progressives have them screaming in fear, as we see on this blog.

To borrow a post from Tony:

America does not have a [traditional] far left movement.
Our far right are fascists.
Our center right are extremist nationalists.
Our center left are classical conservatives.
Our far left are moral centrist moderates.
Any objective political compass would place politicians like Sanders and Warren barely left of center.

A real far leftist movement would be advocating for forced property seizure by the working class.

Instead our far left is like "don't let people die in medical poverty please."

She's great. I do think she's failing as a leader since she can't actually get support for the things she wants to do. Maybe she'd be better off taking over for Maddow.

One of the very first things Cortez did was bringing people into Pelosi's antiroom - that had her po'd. Pelosi does not serve the general population, but her corporate donors.

But to what end? A movement needs the votes to make policy.

#19 | Posted by BruceBanner at 2019-07-14 11:53 PM | Reply

I won't make a lick of difference next year what AOC does or doesn't do.

A large majority of American women can't stand Trump and will never vote to reelect him. Same goes for a majority of suburban voters. He's kryptonite. 2018 wasn't a fluke. With Trump at the top of the ticket next year, the GOP will experience more losses. They've become the party of Trump. America doesn't like him. At all.

Trump approval below 45%, and this:

Biden, Sanders and Warren lead Trump in 2020 election matchups: NBC/Wall Street Journal poll

- Former Vice President Joe Biden currently leads Trump by 9 points, the widest margin among the top four Democratic contenders. That's well outside the poll's margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.

- Biden's large lead over Trump is largely thanks to his performance among potential tossup voters. He has a 6-point advantage among suburbanites and a 4-point lead among independents.

- Sen. Bernie Sanders leads Trump by 7 points and Sen. Elizabeth Warren has a 5-point advantage over the president.

A Biden-Harris or Biden-Warren ticket would beat the snot out of Trump next year. A large majority of women will never vote to reelect him, and suburbanites have fled the GOP in droves too.

Trump's name at the top of the GOP ticket is kryptonite.

What you seem to be saying is that when placed against a Centrist ticket, Trump will lose.

That I can agree with.

At this point, I think a Biden-Buttigieg ticket has the best sustainable shot of unseating the little orange manchild.

The only person who could agree with that is someone completely ignorant of what happened in 2016.

Fox news made her the face of the dem party. You fall for it because you're a sucker for their propaganda.

If she wanted to be the face of the dem party she would have kept holding campaign rallies AFTER the election was over like your stupid orange cult leader.

"And I'm like, 'You try. You do it. Cuz you're not. Cuz you're not. So, until you do it, I'm the boss.' How about that?'"

Nobody on Fox News made her say that. She's made herself the face on the Dems, on purpose. She has more social media power than any moderate Dem except Obama and Michelle. She is holding a permanent campaign rally, it's on Twitter. Trump is doing the same thing.
