Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Bias-motivated 911 calls are real, they are common, and they are both hurtful and wrong. They are also already against the law. Ultimately, the risks inherent in these proposed measures to specially address racially biased calls outweigh any good they might do, such as raising a community's consciousness. The danger here is that fear of a lawsuit or misdemeanor criminal charge will discourage citizens from making legitimate 911 calls regarding legitimately suspicious activity or even actual crimes.

It has been said that fear of a lawsuit has prevented bystanders from helping someone in need.

I saw a thread here recently that showed that belief was not true.

But more to the point here...

The problem is not that people will be discouraged from making 911 calls.

The problem is that those people who make the harassing 911 calls actually think they are making a legitimate 911 call. So solving the real problem is not as easy as one would hope it to be.

I doubt any right-wingers here will even accept the premise.
Including the one who created this thread.

It's certainly not helping that some people are muddying the waters by conflating every single 911 call where a racial minority is involved with racial bias and racism. Sometimes I think these people are subconsciously, or even consciously, trying to gaslight another Bryce Williams or Micah Johnson incident.

This isn't happening, except in the imagination of while apologist right wingers.

I've only called three times in my long life. All for gunfire in city limits. Never saw the shooter but one we got. Eight rounds from a medium caliber handgun followed by a shotgun blast, maybe a block away (withing 100 yards. I though someone surprised a homeowner. I told the 911 lady to send a hearse). Yeah, two-minute response time. No lights, no sirens. You never saw the cops so pissed.

You wanna charge into things like that. If you have first-aid training and 12,000 firearms you want to help. Also I'm supposed to protect civilians. They tell you that's the first duty of a soldier. But don't mess up a crime scene. That's all evidence.
