Former Democratic New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind filed a lawsuit against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. in federal court on Tuesday for blocking users on Twitter based on their personal viewpoints, following a federal appeals court ruling earlier in the day barring President Trump from doing the same.

Will be interesting to watch this one progress.

It could set some precedents, or not.

Now that's funny.

The only way to violate the 1st is to make a credible threat or false alarm, like when I threatened to take down Abraham (I'm immortal).

You could also belong to the wrong religion, so I don't think Jews are protected....

We need Social Justice. MLK was a Nazi (look at what he believed), and so is the ACLU.

Petty lawsuit.

Hikind, the guy who filed the lawsuit, is a Dem. Anyway, the principle is the same as the lawsuit that Trump just lost on the grounds that an elected official cannot block people from their "private" accounts if they are disseminating public policy information on those accounts.

Hikind hosts a weekly radio show in New York City.

Anything for ratings...

So I assume you felt the exact same way about the suit that was filed against Trump, by childish liberals, with the exact same allegations, that was just upheld by the Court of Appeals....right?

As I recall Trump acually used Twitter to fire people. He used it in an offical capacity. I coubt AOC could be acused of the same things.

#10 | Posted by danni at 2019-07-11 09:10 AM | Reply

#10 She's using it to push her office's platform. That's in line with what the Court of Appeals ruled in the Trump suit.

Again: Democrats are the party of unintended consequences. They keep getting burned by fires they started.

Yea. Sure, why not?

Perhaps there needs to be a plonk button.

So people can still post responses to your tweets or tweet at you. But you don't see it.

Kinda gives both sides what they want.

Right wing media is obsessed with AOC. Another Fox News article here ...

Google News feed's two articles on AOC were both from Fox News.

Right wingers are scared of a 29 year old first term congresswoman!

If that is the case, then Nancy Pelosi is also obsessed/scared of a 29 yr old former bartender.

She is news, AU, and a source of amusement/irritant for smart people.

Get over it.

Looks like someone spends way too much time on so-called RW news sources.

Kinda odd that this Boston University grad could only attain the rank of bartender 6 years after graduation.

Fox News and other right wing media are obsessed with AOC. That's why there are loads of articles about her from right wing news sites all over various news feeds.

BTW, I have Google Analytics and just about every other tracking service there is disabled with private windows and 3 tracking blockers. Plus, I clean out the couple cookies left after any browsing session.

Blah blah blah.

The reason right wing media are so focused on AOC and what's-her-name from Minnesota is because they want America to believe Democrats want to turn America into a communist country. Which, if you have an IQ over 100, is ridiculous to even consider.

Pelosi's in charge of her caucus. Like any organization, she won't let it be bullied around by newbies.

On this front AOC isn't so much the problem as is several of the candidates who are running for POTUS.

But, as it pertains to AOC and "the squad's" actual power and influence within the House, I agree with you.

What's wrong with being a bartender?

They make good money and, in your early twenties, it's a fun job.

Obviously she's now a member of Congress and is doing more with her life than you have. You're easily three times her age.

All your attacks on her are petty. Get a life. Loser.

This is a valid point.

If you're going to use social media as a public medium for your message. Then perhaps you're subject to the response of the public.

I suppose if Trump and AOC want to block people, they should create private social media accounts.

So. I recant my post from earlier. Both AOC and Trump are wrong for blocking people.

After this article was first published, journalist Harry Cherry told Fox News he was blocked after calling Ocasio-Cortez a "moron" following her remarks comparing border facilities to concentration camps.

I don't see any difference in the two cases. No politician should be able to block social media users from accounts used to forward information connected to their public position.

AOC and Trump are one and the same on this - if they are using it in any official capacity they can't block. Duh.

#30 | Posted by GalaxiePete at 2019-07-11 05:06 PM | Reply

I don't see what the big deal is. If this falls afoul of first amendment protections, then she should just unblock them.

Has she refused to do that or something? Has she even made a public statement about blocking people on her twitter account?

She is not a petty thin-skinned Republican crybaby. She can handle conflicting viewpoints on her twitter feed.

Pay heed, folks. This is what happens when you disengage your brain and trust that people with a particular letter after their name can just do no wrong, evidence be damned.
