It's hard to recall a newly elected freshman representative to Congress who has made a bigger impact than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

AOC should do what all other congressmen do, collect the paychecks and phone it in.

She was naive to believe she could make a difference. Our government was setup to prevent progressive change.

It's why so many have become disillusioned with it.

Rep Ocasio-Cortez had some interesting questions for Fed Chmn Powell at today's hearing.

She seems to question the use of the Phillips Curve (i.e., low unemployment rates tend to a harbinger of higher inflation) in the current economic environment.

Even more interesting is that she is in pretty good agreement with the Trump administration on this particular topic. That particular aspect was a bit of a surprise.

But also hire wages ... the issue is will the rising wage increase get eaten up by the increase in unskilled labor.

How many magazine covers has she appeared on?

Square that with all of her accomplishments in congress. It's personality cult crap and the MSM is leading the charge per usual. It's not unlike the coverage Obama received in '07 and '08, and really when you think about it, the fawning coverage he received all throughout his presidency.

Who cares? Let's say it's more than any other first-term representative in history, even when adjusted for inflation.
She's popular. As best I can tell, the reason you don't like her being popular is because you don't like her political views.

Is there more to it than that?
It seems like you consider yourself to be some sort of a canary in the coalmine about how popular she is.
So, what's the think you're warning us about?

"It's personality cult crap and the MSM is leading the charge per usual."

This is how politics operates, in fact it's remarkably "per usual" in that regard.

A few months ago some Beto guy got a ton of press, for example. I'm still not sure how to pronounce his first name.

Perhaps they're atoning for Trump. I'd be okay with that. It puts an unfair burden on her, but if she can shoulder it, enjoy the camps you must fear she'll be sending you to, considering your level of alarm.

#24 | Posted by snoofy at 2019-07-11 02:03 AM | Reply

@#16 ... But also [higher] wages ... ...

True.

Some interpretations of Phillips Law that I read say that low unemployment -> higher wages, and then the link to higher inflation is statistically shown to occur as a result of the higher wages. (companies have to raise prices to pat for those higher wages)

... the issue is will the rising wage increase get eaten up by the increase in unskilled labor. ...

Continuing low unemployment seems to be answering "no" to that question.

Indeed, one of the anomalies of this current environment is that the very low unemployment rates are not causing wage increases, even though the low unemployment is pulling in people who were not actively looking for work.

Regardless, I do find it interesting that Rep Ocasio-Cortez seems to agree with Pres Trump in this area. Maybe she's not the evil incarnate the Republicans constantly try to paint her to be? :)

#25 | Posted by LampLighter at 2019-07-11 09:07 AM | Reply

She's a lot like Trump. Doesn't quite know what's going on, ridiculous policies, badly thought out trial balloons, appeal through social media, always the victim.

@#26 ... Doesn't quite know what's going on ...

I watch many of the Congressional hearings (or keep them on the TV as background when I'm working around the house), and she is anything but "does't quite know what's going on."

The questions she asks show a significant and in-depth knowledge of the topic of the hearing.

So far as her "ridiculous policies" go, yeah, she has some policies I disagree with. But my disagreement does not equate to ridiculousness. If it did, then I could easily call Pres Trump's southern border policy "ridiculous." But I reserve other words for that one.

From the get go she's been very vocal and active on social media.

I don't like her because I don't like the notion of average people holding that level of power. Your average person is a vapid, self absorbed moron who's primary skill is being able to speak for long periods of time without actually saying anything.

As I've said before, and the DR Left vehemently denied, the New Green Scheme is just a scam for implementing socialism.

"Saikat Chakrabarti, chief of staff for New York representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.), said that the Green New Deal was not about the climate, but rather about tearing down the economy and building a new one, according to a report from The Washington Post.

"The interesting thing about the Green New Deal is it wasn't originally a climate thing at all," Chakrabarti said, according to the Post. "Do you guys think of it as a climate thing? Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing."

And just like everything else you post, you are wrong.

There is nothing in the green new deal that proposes government ownership of the means of production. Just better things to produce.

DR Left Socialism Definition 1: Socialism is everything the government does. DRL1

DR Left Socialism Definition 2: Socialism requires State ownership of the means of production. DRL2

Whether DRL1 or DRL2 is used is contingent on what suits the argument on a given thread. Call it "situational socialist ethics."
