Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

(CNN)Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday compared himself to former President Barack Obama by noting they both oppose reparations and both he and the nation's first African-American president are descendants of slave holders. "You know, once again I find myself in the same position as President Obama, we both oppose reparations, and both are the descendants of slave holders," McConnell said, after he was asked if a report from NBC that his relatives were slave holders changed his views about reparations.

Stop being such a whiny britch.

Stop for profit prisons. Allow immigrants the ability to come in legally and get ID cards. Subsidize jobs which Americans won't do because they're heavy manual labor jobs for little reward.

No? You just want to send people to concentration camps? Carry on.

Precisely the kind of exploitation I'd like to see end in this country. You seem to want it to continue.

"Stop for profit prisons." - Absolutely.

"Allow immigrants the ability to come in legally

"Subsidize jobs which Americans won't do because they're heavy manual labor jobs for little reward." - What do you mean? Subsidize for whom and by whom? How would it work?

I can envision Obama tormenting an athletic slave by commanding said slave to lose in a game of HORSE as Obama repeatedly throws up bricks and badly misses layups.

You better stop eating anything from your local grocery store. It's all provided to you by "slave" labor.

You seem to want it to continue.

I have, several times, suggested solutions to help create a better system. You're a broken record with nothing new to add to the conversation, so you keep vomiting up the same bullshht.

This is mainly to be an incentive, to motivate more people to take jobs which pay well below minimum wage. Which needs cheap labor to be cost effective.

Think farming. It's a big employer of illegal immigrants. Paying employees more money would motivate more people to take these jobs. Eliminating the source of employment for illegals.

But paying their employees more would result in needing to increase prices for foods. This would seriously be detrimental for the majority of poor people.

By using tax dollars to subsidize the pay for these employees, employers can still keep prices low for their goods. Everyone eats, our taxes would be going to support the people we rely on to provide us with that food.

WalMart was using some form of this to subsidize their employees pay.

It's just an idea.

Combat illegal immigration by taking away the jobs they come seeking.

It's easier than "locking up the employers", which will never happen.

Besides, even if it was efficient, you'd be whaling in your Cheerios when the "owners" of the owners of these companies that farm out to these workers to these large corporations are Hispanics.

On topic, this is a valid question albeit limited in scope. The better question is "which Americans today descended from slave owners?" Slave holders and slaves had been in the modern US for 10 generations by 1860, and 1 in 8 men in America owned slaves in 1860. Statistical retrogression would indicate that by 1860, every person in the south had at least one slaveholding ancestor. Half of the northeasterners probably did as well. More than that in the midwest, given established migration patterns. In the ensuing 6 generations, it is nearly impossible that any American today who had ancestors in the US in 1860 do not have at least one slaveholder in their tree. Overall, probably 2/3rds of Americans today had an ancestor who owned a slave in the US.

I think you might be conflating some numbers. Census data indicates that less than 5% of the men in the slave-owning states owned slaves.
www.politifact.com
It looks like you're using the number for 'families' as individual slave-owners. As in, 1 member of the extended Johnson family owned slaves, ergo the Johnson family owned slaves. Although that still comes in at around 8% of American families owned slaves in 1860.
So, you may wish to take another look at your figures as fewer than 1 in 20 men in America owned slaves in 1860, not 1 in 8.

#34 | Posted by Avigdore at 2019-07-10 11:51 AM | Reply

#34 That's possible. The bottom line is that the average American is more likely to have at least on slave-owning ancestor than not.

Interestly I recently learned the first few decades people landed in America black landowners even owned slaves.

They had to have labor to work the fields.

Now today slaves get a W-9 and pretend they're free.

Let's face it, Mitch McConnell is the most immoral politician of my lifetime. He is a degenerate who should be in prison. Worse than Richard Nixon. Nixon at least obeyed the Supreme Court even though it caused his downfall.

#45 | Posted by danni at 2019-07-11 09:39 AM | Reply

Slave labor...massage parlors, nail salons...basic cash businesses. I'd bet these two people would argue they arent slaves but human traffic. Difference?

Here's the cure to illegal immigration and employers illegally employing:

You have one year to clean house and get out of the country.

After 1yr: prosecute them all. No jail time for conviction. Sentence is permitted under the Constitution: slavery. Slavery is legal in the US if it is the punishment for crime.

Why bother with jails when there is so much labor.

Time served as slaves. Business could have all the labor that the price allows. We'd empty the jails for petty crimes.
