Prominent political activist Ed Buck is facing new legal troubles as the mother of 26-year-old Gemmel Moore, who was found dead of a drug overdose in Buck's home in 2017, has filed an amended civil suit accusing Buck of human trafficking and engaging in revenge porn, CBS Los Angeles reports.

Rumor has it that Mayor Eric Garcetti, through his father, former Los Angeles District Attorney Gil Garcetti, applied pressure to the DA's office to refuse to press charges against Buck. If true, Mr. Mayor is going to have a whole lot of 'splainin to do,

"engaging in revenge porn by making and sharing a video of his alleged "meth-fueled sexual encounters" with Moore."

You can get revenge on the dead?
I sorta feel like she might lack standing on this one.

As the mother of the decedent she has standing, but to your point, whether someone can make a claim for invasion of privacy and defamation (which are the legal claims for revenge porn) on behalf of a dead person is an interesting question.

I think she is trying to shame the DA's office into doing something about Mr. Buck.

Only to a lawyer.

Regular people recognize it for utter nonsense.

Not exactly, what if the defamation and invasion of privacy caused someone to commit suicide? There is plenty of caselaw that says that the tortfeasor is responsible for civil damages like loss of earnings in such a situation, so an argument can be made that a similar situation exists here, especially since Mr. Moore, in writing, said that Buck addicted him to crystal meth and "I just hope the end result isn't death ... If it didn't hurt so bad I'd kill myself but I'll let Ed Buck do it for now."

Then they're dead, and they have no legal standing.

But their estate and heirs do.

Sounds like the kind of thing tort reform is supposed to fix.

Tell that to wrongful death claimants.
