Pompeo announces Commission on Unalienable Rights: Every once in a while, we need to step back and reflect seriously on where we are, where we've been, and whether we're headed in the right direction, and that's why I'm pleased to announce today the formation of a Commission on Unalienable Rights. The commission is composed of human rights experts, philosophers, and activists, Republicans, Democrats, and Independents of varied background and beliefs, who will provide me with advice on human rights grounded in our nation's founding principles and the principles of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. An American commitment to uphold human rights played a major role in transforming the moral landscape of the international relations after World War II, something all Americans can rightly be proud of. Under the leadership of Eleanor Roosevelt, the 1948 Universal Declaration on Human Rights ended forever the notion that nations could abuse their citizens without attracting notice or repercussions.

Title fail! :)

Unfortunately, the hypocrisy within the Trump administration is not unbelievable.

Trump wants to deep-six a few rights, or perhaps dumb them down.

But he's not a dictator, or a Nazis.

I guess we'll just have to find a new word.

""The time is right for an informed review of the role of human rights," Pompeo told reporters. The United States must, he said, "be vigilant that human-rights discourse not be corrupted or hijacked or used for dubious or malignant purposes." "

Sounds like a way to put an end to those pesky "asylum" and "refugee" status people.

"Under Trump, the United States has eroded U.S. human-rights commitments and practices more than any Administration in the seven decades since the Universal Declaration became international law."

Trump convenes a commission whose goal is to figure out how to alienate the unalienable rights of "THOSE" people

Trump's "Commission on Unalienable Rights" is just the opening salvo.

I know it sounds unbelievable, and perhap even impossible, but for Trump to achieve his dream of being the most powerful leader of the most powerful country in the world, he must start by destroying all the obstacles standing his way.

Allowing your 'subjects' the right to life, liberty and the persuit of happiness is a big no-no in Trump's new America.

It will take a while and it will be piecemeal but don't think for a minute that it can't be done if he gets a second term. He'll have lots of help.

In fact, in case you haven't noticed, he's taking lessons from some of the most ruthless dictators in the world who are now his new his best friends.

"be vigilant that human-rights discourse not be corrupted or hijacked or used for dubious or malignant purposes."

by anybody but Trump.

We should know from experience by now that what Trump says is the exact opposite of what he plans to do.

Pompeo is gaslighting us.

As long as they continue to buy bombs, jets and missiles from us to slaughter civilians in Yemen. This pompous ass claims to keep a Bible open on his desk, Jesus wouldn't spit on this piece of filth if he was on fire.

An interesting quote. I'd be interested to see someone privide examples limited to actual human rights, and not services. Please note that civil rights are not human rights, that health care is a service, etc....

I thought, in America, we believed that our rights were given to us by God. Does this mean Trump is America's new God?

#16 It is a conundrum for the administration...unless they're simply determining which human rights they will choose to restrict or not restrict, which is pretty much the unstated purpose of government. I think it's simpler than that: they're conflating civil rights with human rights.

Because Humpy obviously has no clue about what them mysterious "Human Rights" are.
