Jeffrey Epstein arrested in New York, charged with sex trafficking

More than a decade after receiving one of the most lenient sentences for a serial sex offender in U.S history, multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein has been arrested in New York, sources confirmed to the Miami Herald Saturday night.

A passerby said she saw about a dozen agents knock down the door of Epstein's Manhattan townhouse around 5:30 p.m.

Zed, here's another answer to your question:

Jay McKenzie @JamesFourM

Trumpers will claim this is all about Bill Clinton. That's why they're giving Cernovich credit for Epstein's arrest. Remember, the basis of Pizzagate & QAnon is Trump SAVING the children from the global pedophile ring. The narrative remains "Dems are pedophiles, not Trump!"

Trumpers will push this narrative as long as they can. At this point, even if Trump theoretically got arrested for sex trafficking minors himself, Trumpers would claim the Deep State set him up.

Trump is a cult leader. His followers need to believe this statement [follow link to Roger Stone tweet] is true.

Most laws against sex with minors are tough and almost impossible to defend against. The willingness of the alleged victim to participate generally has no bearing on the outcome of the case, unless they are unwilling to testify. These alleged victims claim they have been threatened with death for moving forward on these cases, which could also involve Epstein's friends, including the orange sloth. It hard to have any sympathy for Epstein, and most legal outcomes to date reflect deeply ingrained injustices based on wealth in a for profit system. But it also seems our is Judicial System is obsessed with political correctness instead of Constitutional rights of the accused. Its not an easy question how to weigh the rights of the accused against the rights of their alleged minor victims. Protections against double jeopardy appear to be eroding on many fronts, a dangerous trend in the rise of the US police State.

Whoa!
"Edwards and Cassell submitted a sworn affidavit in the case, signed by Giuffre, that detailed how she had been recruited into sex trafficking by Epstein and his then-partner, Ghislaine Maxwell. Giuffre met Maxwell in 2000 when Giuffre was a 16-year-old and working as a spa attendant at Mar-a-Lago, Trump's winter home and members-only resort in Palm Beach. (Giuffre's original affidavit claimed that she was 15, but her employment records subsequently showed that she was 16 when she worked at Mar-a-Lago.)"

The sex trafficking ring wasn't based in a pizzeria, it was in Mar-a-Lago.

"I've known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy. He's a lot of fun to be with," Trump said at the time. "It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it: Jeffrey enjoys his social life."

When my beloved New York City goes after someone, they do a thorough job and whammo! the trap closes around the ankles.

He's probably being held at Rikers or underground at the FBI Building. He's a billionaire flight risk. Jeffy Jeff is getting questioned then they'll switch. They always want the client book -- the big players. Imagine the names in that black book? Imagine the tapes and damning photos. A man like Jeffy Jeff collects trophies and evidence, just in case he can't buy his way out. He must have a safe filled with files on the people he partied with. It should rival J Edgar Hoover's collection!

The most relevant question will be: Can you deliver Trump?

Can you imagine the day the FBI cuffs Trump at the White House on charges of pedophilia? Imagine Jeffy Jeff bringing down Pence and some of the senators, too?

The next POTUS in succession: Keith the Janitor!

Amac,

Under a plea deal reached in 2007 with then-U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta, Epstein was given immunity from federal prosecution and pleaded guilty to lesser state charges.

I haven't followed this closely, but I fail to connect Mueller to it in any way. Seems the presiding Judge was a key player as well.

Is this a do over of 2007 or another case?

Trump seems way too calm about this IMO and Pence is afraid of wimin, so I think that there may only be super hopeful speculation in that regard.

Looking at Epstein's flight logs, there are some important people who logged a lot of hours on his jet, and the allegations of underage sex seem to revolve around the Jet flights and his island.

Julie K. Brown: "Quite A Few Powerful And Important" Names Will Come Up In Jeffrey Epstein Sex Trafficking Case

Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown, who has done original reporting on details of the alleged sex trafficking crimes of billionaire Jeffrey Epstein for the past several years, joined MSNBC Sunday morning to discuss the evidence against Epstein and the "rogues gallery" of rich, powerful, and famous people who are suspected to have used his services. Epstein was arrested Saturday in New Jersey on sex trafficking charges.

"I've felt a lot of pressure," Brown said. "Needless to say, these are very powerful people and I think that they're sweating a little bit, especially today. We don't know how much, how deep this went, how far-reaching it went in government, but there have been a lot of names that I could see on these message pads [listing clients] on a regular basis as part of the evidence. These message pads where they would call and leave Epstein messages, such as, 'I'm at this hotel.' Why do you do that, unless you're expecting him to send you a girl to visit you at your hotel? So there are probably quite a few important people, powerful people, who are sweating it out right now. We'll have to wait and see whether Epstein is going to name names."

She said Epstein's relationship with fellow Palm Beach resident Donald Trump was "friendly." "They went to dinner parties at each other's houses, Trump was also on his plane. Probably not as much as a lot of other people because, you know, Trump had his own plane. But they had a lot of social relationships. And the other interesting thing is Trump had a modeling agency, and Epstein also had a stake in a modeling agency, which they suspect he used to bring in underage girls from overseas."

"There is a comment in one of the court files where Epstein is quoted as saying, 'I want to set up my modeling agency the same way Trump set up his modeling agency.' I don't know what that means, but it is curious he was trying to do something similar to Trump." Brown said.

Someone needs to look into Trump's modeling agency. If everything is above board, terrific:

I Was A Child Model for Donald Trump's Buddy, John Casablancas & It Wasn't Pretty

I feel passionately about exposing the sexploitation of children through modeling because I lived it. In the 1980s, I was a child model for Donald Trump's buddy, fellow-exploiter and accused pedophile, (the late) John Casablancas. As they say, "You're known by the company you keep," and Donald Trump has kept company with -- to use his words -- some "bad hombres," and John Casablancas was one of the worst. At age thirteen, I joined John Casablancas/Elite ("JCE") in a small-ish market and started modeling bathing suits and lingerie.

We're talking about soft bellied men like Epstein and Trump, who never known hard work. How fast would you think Jeffy Jeff would name names?

The lawsuit accusing Trump (& Epstein) of raping a 13-year-old girl, explained - Vox

Johnson claimed that Trump violently raped her when she was 13 at a 1994 ---- hosted by Jeffrey Epstein -- the billionaire who was convicted in 2008 of soliciting an underage girl for prostitution and has been accused of having sex with more than 30 underage girls. The lawsuit alleged a number of charges against both Trump and Epstein, including rape, sexual abuse, assault and battery, and false imprisonment. Johnson said that when she was 13, Epstein lured her to parties at his apartment by promising "money and a modeling career."

Johnson said Trump had sexual contact with her at four of those parties, including tying her to a bed and violently raping her in a "savage sexual attack." The lawsuit said Johnson "loudly pleaded" with Trump to stop, but that he responded by "violently striking Plaintiff in the face with his open hand and screaming that he would do whatever he wanted." After that, Trump allegedly threatened to harm or kill Johnson and her family if she ever told anyone. Johnson said Trump told her he could make them "disappear" like Maria -- a 12-year-old girl Johnson says Trump also forced her to have sexual contact with, and whom Johnson hadn't seen since that encounter.

From Yashar Ali Twitter:

  • A former federal prosecutor texts how unusual it was that Epstein was arrested on a Saturday. But noted that the feds like to take advantage of airport departures and arrivals for arrests. Epstein landed in NYC on an international flight today and was taken into custody
  • The same former federal prosecutor made note of this detail in the @thedailybeast scoop: that this case has been overseen by the public corruption unit in the SDNY office. Highly unusual for a sex trafficking case to be handled by PCU.
  • Also they note that the fact that the indictment won't be unsealed until Monday is also unusual and COULD indicate that there's a second defendant in this case.
  • Also remember that last week a federal appeals court in NY ordered the unsealing of up to 2,000 documents related to Epstein.
  • I suspect a lot of powerful men, from all over the world and from both sides of the aisle, are very anxious this morning.
  • From Julie K. Brown Twitter: It appears that Epstein was arrested upon his arrival at Teterboro airport today. His plane records show he flew into Teterboro from Paris, were he had been vacationing since June 14.

Anyone remember this official document that named Epstein and Trump as defendants?

Notice Trump's abnormal silence?

How many times do I have to point out, AU, that lawsuit was dismissed twice after Judges in SF and NY ordered the plaintiff to appear, in camera, before them surrounded by security to deal with alleged threats and both times Lisa Bloom dismissed the lawsuit before the ordered appearance.

Even your own link says:

"It was the end of an incredibly strange case that featured an anonymous plaintiff who had refused almost all requests for interviews, two anonymous corroborating witnesses whom no one in the press had spoken to, and a couple of seriously shady characters -- with an anti-Trump agenda and a penchant for drama -- who had aggressively shopped the story around to media outlets for over a year.

The lawsuit "Katie Johnson" (as Bloom "named" her in the media) filed in New York was actually her second attempt to sue Trump and Epstein. The first was in California in April of this year, a claim Johnson filed herself that got thrown out on technical grounds -- she'd filed a civil rights suit, but failed to actually state an applicable civil rights claim.

There were a couple of odd things about that lawsuit. The address listed on court documents as Johnson's was actually a foreclosed, abandoned home, and the phone number was disconnected. Maybe Johnson was just using a fake address because she was homeless; she was, after all, also described as being indigent. But it's fishy.

The lawsuit also described details that were so lurid -- "almost cinematic in their depravity," as Jezebel's Anna Merlan put it -- that they're almost hard to believe.

In fact, Johnson's case has been promoted to the media in truly bizarre, suspicious ways."

The accounts detailed by women who've gone public are just as lurid. Sex slaves, others not being allowed to leave Wexler's property, Epstein's trained 'masseuses,' aka teen sex toys. Mar A Lago recruiting grounds, etc etc ...

Just curious: did you read the linked article?

I did read the article, which is how I got the quotes...wait for it...from the article.

It is not uncommon for judges, if they are wondering if Jane or John Doe exists, to order them to appear, in chambers, just to ask them if they filed the allegations in the complaint. I don't know about NY but it is pretty common in CA, so when this particular Jane Doe was ordered to appear and then Lisa Bloom abruptly dismisses the action that raises all sorts of red flags.

Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, the former U.S. Attorney who allowed Epstein to receive a slap on the wrist back in 2008 without conferring with Epstein's victims, should resign immediately.

More young women have become victims in the ensuing 11 years thanks to him.

And of course Trump knows all of this but appointed him anyway.

You've read about the threats to her life? A named complainant as possibly the next president? Security in court would have done nothing for her in her day to day life. Or protected the family Trump threatened when he allegedly raped her on more than on one occasion.

Trump is an admitted sexual assaulter with 20 women who've alleged he raped and/or sexually assaulted them.

I'll take her word for it over his, thank you.

That doesn't mean it was Holder, but someone high up in the DOJ is sweating as much as the NY J. Doe and John Doe that fought to keep the documents that led to this arrest sealed.

Holder won't have been Acosta's boss in 2007:

On a muggy October morning in 2007, Miami's top federal prosecutor, Alexander Acosta, had a breakfast appointment with a former colleague, Washington, D.C., attorney Jay Lefkowitz.

It was an unusual meeting for the then-38-year-old prosecutor, a rising Republican star who had served in several White House posts before being named U.S. attorney in Miami by President George W. Bush.

Instead of meeting at the prosecutor's Miami headquarters, the two men -- both with professional roots in the prestigious Washington law firm of Kirkland & Ellis -- convened at the Marriott in West Palm Beach, about 70 miles away. For Lefkowitz, 44, a U.S. special envoy to North Korea and corporate lawyer, the meeting was critical.

I know that, but their are also allegations that Acosta avoided any further investigations from 2008 to 2009, which is where pressure from DC would have come in.

Acosta claims the pressure came from Epstein's lawyers:

Alex Acosta is now Donald Trump's Labor secretary. Get this eye-opening detail:

Acosta, in 2011, would explain that he was unduly pressured by Epstein's heavy-hitting lawyers -- Lefkowitz, Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz, Jack Goldberger, Roy Black, former U.S. Attorney Guy Lewis, Gerald Lefcourt, and Kenneth Starr, the former Whitewater special prosecutor who investigated Bill Clinton's sexual liaisons with Monica Lewinsky.

www.theamericanconservative.com

Who the heck would those GOP lawyers be trying to cover for? Not Bill Clinton certainly and probably not Donald Trump either back then.

#95 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2019-07-07 09:34 PM | Reply

Sorry, Lefcourt not GOP (from above link):

Gerald Lefcourt was a law partner to the Sixties radical lawyer William Kunstler. Lefcourt is an iconic left-wing lawyer. Ken Starr is -- well, you know who he is. Same with Dershowitz. Epstein covered all his political bases. Best lawyers money could buy.

#96 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2019-07-07 09:37 PM | Reply

Investigate the investigators has a precedent in this case:

Acosta also described what he called a "year-long assault'' on prosecutors by Epstein's "army of legal superstars'' who, he said, investigated individual prosecutors and their families, looking for "personal peccadilloes'' to disqualify them from Epstein's case.

Dershowitz, in an interview, denied that Epstein's lawyers would ever investigate prosecutors.

Documents nevertheless show that Acosta not only buckled under pressure from Epstein's lawyers, but he and other prosecutors worked with them to contain the case, even as the FBI was uncovering evidence of victims and witnesses in other states, FBI and federal court documents show.

This raises a question: What, if anything, did Epstein's investigators find out about Acosta and/or others on his team? Anything blackmailable? How else could one explain this kind of sniveling acquiescence?

Jeffrey Epstein plea deal must stand, prosecutors tell sex abuse victims
By Julie K. Brown June 25, 2019

Suspected sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was handed another break by the Department of Justice on Monday when federal prosecutors rejected his victims' efforts to throw out his plea deal and prosecute him for abusing dozens of underage girls.

In the 35-page motion, filed in federal court in the Northern District of Georgia, federal prosecutors said that there is no legal basis to invalidate Epstein's non-prosecution agreement -- and they warned the federal judge in the case against doing the same.

"From 1990 up until 2004, Epstein donated more than $145,000 to Democratic federal candidates and PACs, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics. Notable recipients include former President Bill Clinton and former Republican Senator Bob Packwood. In 2004, the year leading up to a full-scale police probe into the allegations of sexual exploitation of underage girls, his political giving abruptly stopped.

From 2000-2004, Epstein donated $55,000 to Democrats John Kelly, Richard Gephardt, and other high-profile politicians."

There are more important things afoot in this Epstein case aside from the fact that his sweetheart deal is about to go K-A-P-U-T!

For one, Epstein didn't operate this pedophile ring alone. There are plenty of people who knew about it, including politicians, who partook of the treats Epstein was offering. Not everybody's name on a flight manifest or attended a party can be assumed guilty. But those who are guilty will be looking for a deal of their own.

My point is, let's watch and see who offers to flips first.

If Trump succumbs to pressure and fires Acosta, will Acosta feel betrayed (common among Trump's appointees) and retaliate to save himself?
