Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, June 25, 2019

Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, filed the Committee's bipartisan report recommending that the House of Representatives hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with subpoenas for documents about the real reasons behind the Trump Administration's efforts to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census. The contempt report includes new transcripts of witnesses who were interviewed by Committee staff as part of the investigation, but refused to answer hundreds of questions. Among the new information released today is a memo and transcript from the Committee's interview with James Uthmeier, a former Senior Advisor and Counsel to Secretary Ross.

Unlike that idiot Nadler, at least Cummings knows what he is doing. EP is fairly broad, but in this instance Cummings and COR have Barr and Ross by the shortest of shorthairs.

My guess is that an agreement will be reached in the near future where Ross gives up most of what he and Barr are protecting. If not, the Courts will not treat the DOJ or Commerce very kindly.

Maybe, but at least Rep. Cummings understands what is actionable contempt, what isn't, and how to use contempt of congress to get what he wants.

As Jeff likes to say, he is acting like a competent member of the opposing party doing his job.

#4. Exactly. While I think Cummings is jumping the gun at least he's using actionable contempt properly. The Nadler contempt vote in committee over getting the full unredacted report was a sham that should have embarrassed most of his colleagues.

Enough with the sternly worded statements.
Time to frog march a shackled up Barr to prison.

Nice thought but it ain't gonna happen. This group has encased themselves in a titanium-based web of Trump's claims, one of which is ~ obeying the law is optional.

And why not? It's a shame that Democrats have already allowed others who claim a blanket of immunity to set the precedent.
