China has finished building the outer safety dome at its first overseas "Hualong One" nuclear reactor in Pakistan, with the project scheduled to be finished by the end of 2020. China National Nuclear Corp described the completion of the double-layered steel dome on the containment building of the Karachi 2 nuclear power plant in Pakistan as a milestone that would help demonstrate China's Hualong One technology worldwide. The firm is building two Hualong One units at the site.

China is hoping to use its third-generation Hualong One design to boost its presence in the overseas nuclear power sector and it is already making plans to build projects in Argentina and Britain.

China developed the Hualong One reactor as a rival to the Westinghouse-developed AP1000 and Europe's "Evolutionary Pressurised Reactor", with both models beset by cost overruns and construction delays.

The world's first Hualong One reactor is set to go into operation ahead of schedule in the southeast Chinese province of Fujian late next year.

CNNC said its four demonstration projects in China and Pakistan are progressing in an orderly manner, noting that they "are the only third-generation pressurised water reactor projects in the world that are being constructed on schedule."

Each reactor will produce over a gigawatt of electricity. Pakistan's previous reactors were all smaller, at around 350 Megawatts. The plan is to install at least 8 more of these huge reactors.

99.7% safe and effective. Buy more.

Honestly I can't understand why anybody is still doing these things. If you don't need to re-process the spent fuel rods to make bombs, don't do it. Go thorium. That's in less than a decade. 3% of the waste, longest lasting 300 years, not a million.

They don't. These reactors are safeguarded by the International Atomic Energy Agency. You can't steal their fuel to make bombs without the whole world knowing.

They have other.. unsafeguarded... reactors for that sort of thing. Those are separate from the civilian energy producing ones.

Go thorium.

Pipe dream.

The world will have fusion before they have practical thorium commercial reactors.

And fusion itself is a pipe dream on it's own.

Using thorium as a fuel ... this stupid idea first came out of Homi Bhabha's butt (father of India's nuclear program). Like all Indian ideas.... for example, yoga... sounds nice on paper but is a fail in reality.

As for Karachi, it ran on a reactor that could use thorium as fuel. A Canadian designed reactor (CANDU) can always switch to part-thorium fuel cycle. However, CANDU reactors are fussy, low-power, toy reactors. The one in Karachi.. KANUPP-1... has been turned into a training school... it could never make more than 80 Megawatts on it's best days. LOL

However, if I was in-charge, I would go for large scale solar.

There is a fusion reactor that is super-reliable and very safe and has been running without a problem for a very long time.

It's called the Sun.

Sorry, I'm a low on blood right now. But #5 made sense.

See... this is what I'm having for lunch. It's barbecued chicken cubes in yogurt.

It may look like a dog's dinner but if you have low blood sugar or indeed are missing blood altogether, this does the job.

Add some garlic to it. In case of vampire bite, he/she won't bite you again.

LOL. None of those words are meant to go together into one dish.

None of those words are meant to go together into one dish.

True. But it works.

Don't judge it by it's looks. Hunger pangs will go away for whole day.

I don't trust the quality Chinese computer parts - no way in hell I buy anything they are selling to contain radiation.
