Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Opinion: "I love the poorly educated." So declared Donald Trump back in February 2016, after a decisive win in the Nevada primary. And the poorly educated love him back: Whites without a college degree are pretty much the only group among whom Trump has more than 50 percent approval. But in that case, why has Trump been unwilling to do anything, and I mean anything, to help the people who installed him in the White House?

He's a real populist. They all are. This is what happens. It's naive to think a populist cares about the people they manipulate to get elected. In fact, it's the opposite. They use those folks, then destroy them.

@#1 ... Because he hates people?...

I think that's too broad.

I'd say he dislikes those who are not wealthy, especially those whose skin is not white.

His tax cut favored the corporations and the wealthy, even though as a candidate he said he would raise taxes on the wealthy (even himself).

He seems to warm up to the non-wealthy more during campaign season when he needs their votes, then leaves them behind when he switches from campaigning to governing.

In the article (great article to share, btw) Krugman points out that "Trump's whole career shows him to be the kind of man who, if anything, takes pleasure in taking advantage of people who trusted him."

#4 | Posted by BruceBanner at 2019-06-18 03:15 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

The thing Krugman gets wrong is the conclusion that Trump didn't do anything populist. Krugman points out that Trump gave money to the rich and people know that he did this. There is a huge group of Americans who think that we should give stuff to the rich. That's a very American idea, to reward the rich. I would say that's his populist move. Taking away health care was another thing people want. They want to have less healthcare. Despite what they say, they keep voting for less.

#5 | Posted by BruceBanner at 2019-06-18 03:18 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

"Taking away health care was another thing people want"

That's what they call hurting the people who need to get hurt.

One thing Trump and his supporters have in common is they strong believers in hurting people to get their way.

"strong believers in hurting people to get their way"

It's very American to believe that you can't really have something, unless others DO NOT have it.

@#4 ... In the article (great article to share, btw) Krugman ...

thx.

I disagree with a lot of what he says in his op-eds, even though he does put up a lot of facts to substantiate his commetns.

But every once in a while he does put something in an op-ed that I think is a good opinion.

@#5 ... Taking away health care was another thing people want. ...

I disagree.

Taking away Obamacare is what the people wanted.

Unfortunately, what Pres Trump and the Republicans discovered was that Americans like Obamacare when it is not called Obamacare and the coverage it provides is discussed.

Indeed, here are Pres Trump's promises on healthcare when he was a candidate...

May 21, 2015
I'm not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid.

Sept 25, 2015
Everybody's got to be covered.

Feb 17, 2016
We're going to have great plans. They're going to be much less expensive and they're going to be much better.

Oct 25, 2016
You're going to have such great healthcare at a tiny fraction of the cost, and it is going to be so easy.

Nov 13, 2016
It will be better healthcare, much better for less money. Not a bad combination.

"We're going to have insurance for everybody ... There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can't pay for it, you don't get it. That's not going to happen with us."
-- Trump to the Washington Post in January 2017

"I'm not going to cut Social Security like every other Republican and I'm not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid."
-- Trump to the Daily Signal in May 2015

"Our healthcare plan will lower premiums & deductibles -- and be great healthcare!"
-- Trump tweet in May 2017

"We will immediately repeal and replace ObamaCare - and nobody can do that like me. We will save $'s and have much better healthcare!"
-- Trump tweet in February 2016

It wouldn't surprise me if we heard similar promises over the next year and a half...

@#11 ... Miss Cleo makes more accurate forecasts than Always-Wrong Krugman ...

Btw, the full context of the exceprt you cite is:

Paul Krugman: The Economic Fallout
www.nytimes.com

It really does now look like President Donald J. Trump, and markets are plunging. When might we expect them to recover?

Frankly, I find it hard to care much, even though this is my specialty. The disaster for America and the world has so many aspects that the economic ramifications are way down my list of things to fear.

Still, I guess people want an answer: If the question is when markets will recover, a first-pass answer is never. ....

What I find funny about that quote that he posts is that it is a misquote of what Mr Klugman actually said.

Was the misquote intentional to make Mr Klugman look worse, or was it just stupidity because daveblaska.files.wordpress.com doesn't have a high enough level of reading comprehension to understand what is written, or???

Pretty obvious that Trump isn't a real populist because he's a fake populist. Everything he does is fake.

"He seems determined to betray his base"

No kidding, really? He always knew his base were a bunch of suckers. I knew he was "betraying" his base when he went with that birther crap. Though I'm not too sure if betraying is the right word since they enjoy it so much.

The orange sloth was born into a position as a Landlord. Landlords do no real work and in his case have no empathy for tenants or workers whose best interests are always in direct conflict with the investment class. The most important task of the ruling investment class is to vilify Marx, who raised awareness of the inherent conflict between the leisure class and the working class. In Government by any name ultimate power always lies with organized working masses, as Hong Kong recently demonstrated. It is always bet for the ruling class to keep the working class in an ignorant confused state.

If bill weren't willing to discuss his sexuality he wouldnt have mentioned it. He introduced that topic of his own free will and I asked him to elaborate. You attacked me because you are that desperate to find something to attack me for. It has to do with your credibility. You attacked krugman for making inaccurate predictions. Because if someone made inaccurate predictions they should be ignored after that shouldn't they?

So what were your predictions about the 2018 midterms? We know what they were. Bloodbath for the democrats. You were gonna laugh at their failures. Instead it was the blue wave. You were totally wrong. So by your own standards we should all ignore you from now on shouldn't we?
